Weekly Update October 10th

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 15:13

We have a name!

During the October 5th Board Meeting for the HCDSB, the Virtual School was officially named St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Elementary School! Thank you to the Naming Committee, Bishop Crosby, and everyone in the HCDSB community who contributed to the process. More information about St. Clare can be found here.

Families are reminded that Monday, October 11 is the Thanksgiving holiday, so there is no school for students. We wish all St. Clare of Assisi families a blessed Thanksgiving! We will see all students back on Tuesday, October 12.

Important Information for Parents of Students in Gr. 2, 3, 7 and 8

This update is for the parents of students who will be receiving a Sacrament this year or who had a Sacrament postponed last year due to Public Health measures.  All HCDSB students are prepared for the sacraments through the ‘Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ’ program facilitated by the classroom teacher. In addition to the in-class program, every parish in the HCDSB provides information specific to their parish regarding sacramental celebrations.

To ensure that your child can participate fully in the sacraments, it is important that they are registered with your local parish and that you contact the parish regularly regarding the sacramental preparation and celebrations

To facilitate registration and contact with your local parish, a parish contact list has been created and can be found here.

Six Tips to Support Your Child’s Mental Wellness:

1. Shine a spotlight on what is still within your child’s control as opposed to focusing on what’s not.
2. Recognize the comforting rhythm of routine.
3. Help your child to learn about and understand the new rules of heading back to school.
4. Encourage your child to ask lots of questions.
5. Help your child to identify a safe person at school.
6. Call on friends, peers, and classmates to help your child transition.
