Weekly Update – Jan 10th

Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.

Extension of School Closures

As you are aware, the Ministry is extending the closure of schools until January 17th. That means our office is closed with limited access to the school. If you need to contact any staff, please use their board email.

Please note school closures also include the schoolyard, therefore students should not be congregating in the yard after school hours to play basketball or to hang out. By-Law officers are out in the community and may reinforce this message should they see any activity on the grounds. We are trying to keep our community safe by respecting the provincial lockdown measures. We appreciate your co-operation in working together!

Teacher-Led Remote Learning

Thank you to all our parents who helped support the remote learning that began last week! We truly appreciate your ongoing support and patience during this model of instruction.

Due to the concerning increase in cases of COVID-19, the Ministry has announced that remote learning will continue in order to keep our students and families as safe as possible.

Teachers will continue to follow our regular school schedule, including an 8:40 AM start time for individual classes. You can expect recess and lunch breaks, French period, Arts period, etc. to occur at their usual times unless otherwise communicated to you by the teacher. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher regarding any questions or concerns.

For more information about how to support your child’s learning at home, please refer to: Remote Learning

At this current time, we are scheduled to return to the building on Monday, January 17, 2022. We will keep you updated if we hear differently from the Ministry of Education.

Accessing Your Child’s Online Learning Platform

Our School Board has revamped its website and we hope you had the opportunity to check it out! If you are having trouble accessing the log-in page to the online learning platforms using the new HCDSB website, the access points for all three learning platforms – D2L (Brightspace),  Office 365 and Google Classroom, are available on the main page of the Board’s website and also on the HCDSB Learn at Home link.

Change in Learning Environment

Information regarding changing your child’s learning environment from in-person learning to the virtual school or vise versa, went out to parents this week. Please note, if you do request a change of learning environment to the virtual school, your child will be demitted from St. Vincent and registered at the virtual school St. Clare of Assisi and they will have a different classroom teacher(s). You will no longer be receiving any messages or communication from our school as you will be registered with the virtual school (this is different from the process last year). If you are interested in changing your child’s learning environment, the deadline to apply is January 14th and more information can be found here.

Advanced New Registrations for 2022-2023 School Year

To facilitate planning for the 2022-2023 school year, we encourage all families intending to register new children at St. Vincent School (including Kindergarten registrations) by following the guideline posted on the front page of our website: New Registrations 2022-23 School Year. Online registrations are now open. Once you’ve registered online, the office will contact you for further instructions to complete your registration.
