Weekly Update – Dec. 6th

This Advent, make yourself small, make yourself humble, make yourself a servant of others, and the Lord will give you the ability to understand how to make peace.

Pope Francis
Second Week of Advent

Advent Prayer & Reflection

In this second week of Advent, we light the first two candles of our Advent wreath. We await the coming of our Lord Jesus and light the way to see the face of God.  We follow the light of God with faith and hope.

God of light, bring us faith, help us to find faith this Advent.

Help us to prepare for the coming of the Lord,

As we look forward to the birth of your Son,

May our faith grow stronger with every passing day.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

The circular shape of the wreath, without beginning or end, symbolizes God’s complete and unending love for us—a love that sent his Son into the world.  It also represents eternal life which becomes ours through faith in Jesus Christ. The second Sunday of Advent, December 5th, symbolizes Faith and we light the second purple “Bethlehem Candle” reminding us of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. Family Paint Night – Dec 7th

The HCDSB Indigenous Education Advisor has organized free online paint nights with Indigenous Artist Moses Lunham. This is a wonderful way of engaging staff, parents, students, and family members to come together in community, to be creative, and learn more about Indigenous art. All information for the paint nights, pictures, and supplies are posted on the HCDSB webpage.

Each session will have a different theme based on the natural cycle of the environment. All sessions will be on the Grandmothers Voice YouTube Channel and start at 6:30 pm – 8 pm. The session on December 7th will be on “Big Spirit Moon”. Moses Lunham will provide step-by-step instructions and explain the importance of Big Spirit Moon.

Our Peace Ambassadors are organizing an Angel Tree this year to donate to Halton’s Women’s Place during Christmas Time. Due to COVID restrictions, the organization is requesting gift cards for families in need. Angels will be ready to be distributed on Monday, November 29th. Students are welcome to come to our Angel Tree and choose an angel with a specific gift card request (it will be labeled with the store and amount) to donate to Halton’s Women’s Place. The gift cards will be given to moms to help purchase gifts or things they may need for their family at Christmas.

All gift cards need to be returned by Friday, December 10th (morning). Thank you for supporting this organization!

Christmas Music Performance

This year, due to COVID protocols, we cannot have the typical Christmas concert that we have enjoyed in the past. However, each class will be performing one or two songs that will be recorded and shared with our parent community. Ms. Runco and Mr. Miguel are organizing these performances for our students and parents to enjoy! Students will be wearing masks while they sing, but we will make them fun by decorating them to go with the song or theme of their performance. The performance should be ready to be shared with parents before the Christmas Break. More information will be communicated to you from your classroom teacher in the upcoming weeks. If you have chosen on the school forms for your child not to be videotaped, please email your child’s teacher if you will allow your child to participate in the musical performance. If we do not receive confirmation, we will have to film the performance without your child for safety reasons. Thank you for your co-operation and we look forward to bringing joy through music to our community!
