November is Indigenous Awareness Month

Throughout the month of November and during this school year, HCDSB students and staff will acknowledge the contributions and legacy of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit peoples in Canada. We recite the prayer for Honouring the Land and Territory over the PA each morning to show solidarity with the Indigenous people, and will also share some important information for Treaty Recognition Week.

Hallowe’en Dance A Thon Fundraising Update

Thank you to everyone for supporting our Dance a Thon fundraiser! It was a huge success and the students had a wonderful time dancing with their friends. Our Peace Ambassadors did a fantastic job in organizing the event and leading our students in fun dances all throughout the day. Thank you to Ms. Arthur and Ms. Runco for leading our Ambassadors in such a FUN Halloween Dance a Thon, and Mr. Daly for providing the music!

We surpassed our goal and raised just over $13,000 so far! We are truly grateful for the generosity of our parent community as this will benefit our students in continuing to support their learning and achievement. We are still accepting donations until November 1st and will announce the prizes for our top donators and class participation once we have calculated the final amounts.

We posted class pictures on our Twitter feed and be sure to check out the wonderful time had by all!

Parent-Teacher Interview Communication

Progress Reports will be sent home on November 24th.  Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place on the evening of November 25th and on the November 26th PA Day.  Interviews will be scheduled using an online scheduling program to limit the use of paper similar to last year. Communication with a link and information on how to schedule your interviews will be emailed to you in the next week.

Volunteers

In preparation for when we can have volunteers back in our schools, parents need to complete a Volunteer Declaration Offence Form. Criminal Reference Checks / Vulnerable Sector Screening and annual declarations filed in the school since September 2019 are valid. If you currently have a reference check filed at our school, we ask that you complete this online declaration to declare you have had no convictions since 2019. Please note, regular volunteers in the school will need to provide proof of vaccination and pass the daily self-screening tool. If you do not have a criminal reference check on file and would be interested in volunteering at the school, please apply online at: www.haltonpolice.ca.

More information on the protocol for volunteering in our school can be found on our website here.

THE CHRISTMAS SHOP IS COMING!!

We are pleased to once again offer your children the opportunity to shop for loved ones at our ANNUAL ST. VINCENT CHRISTMAS SHOP in support of Kerr Street Ministries!

We are required to purchase items upfront from our suppliers, therefore a google pre-order form (you are not committed to purchasing these items, it is just to help us get organized) will be emailed to parents on Monday, November 1st and needs to be filled out by Friday, Nov 5th so we can be organized for this special day.

Items for purchase range from $2-$10 with the most popular items in the $5 range.  The profits from this shop will be donated to Kerr Street Ministries.  Thank you to our Christmas Shop Committee (Carolyn Holmes, Monique Craigen, and Sonia Guglietti) for organizing this special event!

Halton Catholic Children’s Foundation

  • 11th Annual HCCF Evening with Bishop Crosby – Virtual Edition
  • Wed. Nov. 17, 2021 – Reception at 6:30pm; Main Event at 7:00-8:30pm

The Halton Catholic Children’s Foundation (HCCF) supports HCDSB students in need with basic necessities (i.e. food and clothing) & with school activities that have a fee (i.e. team or club fees).

“With this funding the foundation has gratefully reduced the stress impacting the family and helped to ensure access to basic needs.” – HCDSB Social Worker

HCCF needs our help so they can continue to say “yes” to helping HCDSB students with financial barriers to learning. They are looking for companies to be a sponsor at the event and for community members to purchase tickets and to donate. It is NOT another Zoom call. We are using https://www.kumospace.com/ so you can have fun and interact with your friends. Enjoy a meal and your favourite beverage while you catch up with others.

Join the Halton Catholic Community for an entertaining experience where you can connect with your friends and hear Bishop Crosby’s stories, sense of humour and wisdom.
