Weekly Update – September 13th

The Greatest gift you can give your children is not your own riches, but revealing to them their own.

Thank You!

A big thank you to our parents, students, and staff for working together to ensure a safe start to our school year. Parents did a great job with the Kiss and Ride by staying in their cars and keeping the area safe. Please note, we ask our Kindergarten parents to use the front access and pathway to pick up and drop off their children as we cannot have any parents on the back blacktop while students are entering and exiting the building – thank you for your co-operation!

Students did a great job in wearing their masks and following the safety protocols we have in place. Our staff did a fabulous job in preparing and educating our students on the health and safety procedures. Working together, we will create a safe and happy place for our students to learn!

Daily Confirmation of Covid-19 Screening

The Ministry of Education has directed all schools to implement daily confirmation of COVID self-screening for all elementary students attending school in person. This will be in place for the first two weeks of the school year, unless otherwise directed by the Ministry of Education.

  1. Parents and guardians are asked to complete the COVID-19 School Screening Toolfor each child every day before leaving home for school.
  2. Confirmation of the daily screening must be provided to the classroom teacher in one of the following formats:
  • Email results to classroom teacher;
  • Show “pass” confirmation on a personal device;
  • Show printed copy of the screening tool indicating the current date and a “pass”; OR
  • Complete Confirmation of Daily COVID-19 Student Screening Log, which your child(ren) bring back and forth to school each day. (If a teahcer chooses this option, this will be given to your child after the first day of school)

Visitor Protocol

This school year, in an effort to minimize contacts and help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19, we are currently limiting visitor access to our school.

All visitors, including parents and HCDSB staff who are not assigned to our school, will require approval and pre-screening before entering our building. Only visits that are deemed absolutely essential will be approved – e.g. visits by the Fire Marshal’s office or by public health. Where possible, meetings or visits will be conducted virtually.

Visitors who are granted approval will be required to complete an online screening form prior to arriving at our school. Once inside, all visitors will be required to wear masks.

Lunches for Elementary Students

For the health and safety of our students and school community, it is strongly recommended that all K-8 students remain at school for the full duration of their lunch periods. No student shall be permitted to leave school property during the lunch hour unless in the company of a designated caregiver.

As we limit visitors to our school throughout the day, lunch drop-offs will not be permitted during the school day.

At this time, due to safety protocols, there will be no lunch or milk programs. Parents and guardians are asked to provide their child(ren) with lunch in the morning before students enter the school building.

Water Bottles

Students and staff will be able to bring reusable water bottles and refill them at designated refill stations in our school. For the health and safety of our students and school community, the use of water fountains for drinking will not be permitted.

Family Consent Forms

As you know, at the beginning of each school year, parents and guardians are asked to complete a hardcopy information/consent form for each child enrolled in our school. Beginning this year, we will be collecting this information electronically, and are asking parents/guardians to complete the form online. Please note, the Physical Education form (plus important Board information) was sent home in a brown envelope with youngest and only students. Please return the Physical Education form as soon as possible to the classroom teacher.

Parents are asked to complete the online form, which may be accessed HERE. The form should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Important Notes Before Completing the Form:

  • If you have more than one child enrolled in an HCDSB school, please complete a separate form for each child.
  • Only one parent/guardian is required to complete a form for each child.
  • You will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to submit this form. The OEN can be found on a recent report card.
  • Please ensure you are submitting your child’s preferred name or the name you provided at registration.
  • The form can be completed using a computer, smart phone, or tablet.

Parents of Students with Medical Conditions

If your child has a medical condition, the existing Student Plan of Care will be sent home for you to review and update if necessary during the first week of school. If your child has an epi-pen, please ensure that you provide one to the school on or before the first day of school.

If your child has a change in their condition, please contact Mrs. Van Hooydonk in this case.

Catholic School Council

If you are interested in joining our Catholic School Council please email Mrs. Van Hooydonk to request a form. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 17th at 9:00 am. Please note that no further nominations will be considered after this date and time.

Should a vote be necessary, the community will be invited to do so via electronic ballot the week of September 20th, 2020

Our Catholic School Council plays an active role at St. Vincent by determining school priorities and budgeting. We meet approximately 6 times a year and it is important to know that we need committed members able to attend meetings. At this time, meetings will be held virtually through an online platform. Our first meeting will be Monday, October 4th at 7 PM. You will receive a confirmation email from the school regarding your interest in being on our council once we receive all the applications. Thank you for your interest in being a part of our Catholic school community!

Code of Conduct

At St. Vincent Catholic School we encourage our students to be on their best behaviour ~ always and everywhere. All adults and students are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct when on school property and in the school building. Please take a moment to discuss the Code of Conduct which can be found on our school website here: Code of Conduct
