Weekly Update – June 28th

Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can install in us.

Hal Borland

Congratulations Graduating Class of 2021

On Wednesday and Thursday we celebrated our Grade 8’s with a Graduation Mass led by Father Con, a live virtual ceremony, and a Drive-Thru Graduation for a Curbside Pick-up of their awards and diplomas. We are very proud of our students and how they have learned and grown during their time at St. Vincent. It was wonderful celebrating all of their accomplishments with their families! Links for the recorded ceremony, grad mass, and look-back memory video were sent to parents as a keepsake.

Read this special message posted to celebrate our graduates! This message can also be found in the Oakville newspaper’s Graduation digital flipbook on the Family of Schools page.

Returning Technology & Textbooks

If you have any school technology, or textbooks to be returned, we will be designating June 28th and 29th from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM as drop-off dates. If you are not available on those dates and have items to return to the school, please return them before you leave by coming to the front doors at any time this week Monday-Friday between 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Please contact Mrs. V at the office if you have any questions or concerns.

We ask that you adhere to public health guidelines by waiting if another family is at the door picking up/dropping off their belongings, and wearing a mask when collecting/dropping off your items. Thank you for your co-operation!

Save the Evidence Donations

A HUGE thank you to our community for donating gently-loved children’s shoes in honour of the 215 children found in BC.  After Graduation, all shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls.

With your generosity, we were able to raise $750 for Save the Evidence (connected with the Woodland Cultural Centre) which is restoring a former Ontario residential school into a museum and educational resource centre to further our education and reconciliation efforts. All monies collected will be donated to Save the Evidence on behalf of our graduating St. Vincent Class. Thank you for your continued support in our fundraising efforts!

Early Dismissal – June 29th

The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 29, 2021. We will be having early dismissal on that date, therefore classes will be dismissed at 1:40 pm (90 min earlier).

Volunteers

Due to Covid19, we were unable to invite volunteers into the school to support our programming and extra-curricular activities as we normally do at St. Vincent School. We are very hopeful that we will be able to welcome volunteers back into our school at some point during the 2021-2022 school year. If you are interested in volunteering at our school we ask that you obtain both a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) and a Criminal Reference Check (CRC) at Halton Regional Police Services. Please consider having this done over the summer. All volunteers, both new and experienced, must have an updated police reference check as the ones we have on file have expired. You can also apply online at: www.haltonpolice.ca

Medical Conditions – Parent/Guardian Packages:

If your child has a serious medical condition, an updated medical package form was recently emailed to parents. If your child is new to our school or has a NEW medical condition, please contact Mrs. V at the office to obtain the new forms. The health care forms MUST be completed and returned to the school during the week of August 30, 2021, prior to the first day of school.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation regarding the safe provision of medication and the information pertaining to your child. Their safety, and the safety of all other students, is our first priority.

Happy Summer Break!

We would like to thank all our parents and students for a wonderful year at St. Vincent School. It has been a challenging year, but working together we persevered and continued to foster a nurturing learning environment for our students. We wish you a relaxing and restful summer break. Take the time to spend with your families and rejuvenate, and we look forward to seeing you in the new school year. Our office will open the week of August 30th. The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 7th.
