I know you have big dreams for yourself, but don’t forget to appreciate how far you’ve come already. Remember the days you prayed for the things you have now~ Ruben Chavez
Pride Awareness Day – June 14th
June is the designated Pride Month in Canada, and throughout the month, we will join other schools in our district in raising awareness, and nurturing our call to build safe and inclusive learning environments where every student and every member of the community is welcomed, valued, and respected. HCDSB has designated June 14 as Pride Awareness Day and we will continue to celebrate our students and staff who all belong to our Catholic community.
Student Pick-up & Drop-Off of Items
Parents received an email with specific details and a time for coming to pick up any items their child(ren) may have left at the school, including medication stored at the office. The scheduled date for pick-up is Wednesday, June 16th. We sent most items home with students before the April Spring Break; any leftover items will be bagged for pick-up should you wish to collect them. Any items not collected will be donated or discarded.
Students who have Textbooks and borrowed technology for remote learning will be asked to drop those items off at the school on Monday, June 28th between the hours of 9 AM – 2 PM.
We ask that you adhere to public health guidelines by waiting if another family is at the door picking up/dropping off their belongings, and wearing a mask when collecting/dropping off your items. Thank you for your co-operation!
Closing School Mass – June 22nd
Our Grade 7/8 students will be leading us in a virtual End of School-Year Liturgy on June 22nd at 11:00 AM and Father Con will also be joining us. Your child’s teacher will be sharing the link with their students (posted on their classroom platform) for accessing the liturgy through Microsoft Teams. Due to the number of people accessing the liturgy remotely, please join in as a family using one device and link to the liturgy. Thank you and we look forward to celebrating our school year as a community!
Grade 8 Graduation – June 24th
As previously communicated to families, our schools have been preparing for virtual graduation ceremonies for the last several months and extensive planning and work has already been undertaken to create memorable celebrations to honour our graduating students in Grade 8. These virtual graduation celebrations will continue, as planned.
The following activities will be part of the St. Vincent CES Gr. 8 Graduation 2021:
- Grade 8 Graduation Mass – Wednesday, June 23rd at 11 AM: Father Con will be pre-recording a graduation mass for the graduating classes of his Family of Schools (St. Luke and St. Vincent). Each Grade 8 class will be invited by their classroom teacher (they will share the Microsoft Teams link) to watch it together as a class. Parents are welcome to join along with the class!
- Grade 8 Live, Virtual Graduation Ceremony – Thursday, June 24th at 1:00 PM: Our students and their families are invited to attend our live, virtual graduation ceremony using Microsoft Teams (please note, this event will also be recorded in case you are unable to attend). Each family of the graduates was provided a Microsoft Teams link in an email to join in the ceremony. Due to large numbers, we ask families to join together on one device wherever possible and limit the number of guests watching to ensure everyone has an opportunity to join (there is a capacity limit).
- Grade 8 Graduation Diploma Pick Up – Thursday, June 24th, 5 PM – 8 PM: Families will be provided a time to arrive for their Graduation pick up from their child’s teacher.
There are two graduation awards that we have already recognized as they are announced prior to the graduation ceremony. Congratulations to Dean who is the recipient of the Award of Excellence (an award given out earlier through a Board ceremony), and congratulations to Matthew who is our Valedictorian for the graduating class of 2020-2021. Both of these gentlemen truly encompass the Catholic Graduate Expectations, we are so proud of you!
Goodbye and God Bless
Each year at this time we have to say goodbye to those who are leaving St Vincent to share their gifts and talents in other communities. We have been enriched by your presence here at our school and you will be greatly missed! May God bless you abundantly as you continue your journey in Catholic Education.
At this time, we say goodbye to the following staff members:
~ Mrs. Schoenmakers is continuing her maternity leave for the next school year and we look forward to seeing updated pictures of her new baby
~ Mrs. Coles (DECE), Mr. Scandiffio (PTM/Arts), Ms. Bernasiewicz (Gr. 6), Mrs. White (Educational Assistant), and Mr. Puccini (Educational Assistant) have completed their LTOs with us and we wish them the best on their continued educational careers
~ Mrs. Masuzzo, one of our educational assistants, will be moving on to High School and we wish her the best in her new placement
~ Mr. Bartlett, a teacher in the virtual school, will be moving on to another school next year. We wish him the best on his continued educational career.
Lost and Found
If you think your child may have something in our Lost and Found, please contact the office by Wednesday, June 16th so we can have it ready for pick-up. Any leftover items will be donated.
HCDSB Strategic Plan Survey
We value your feedback! Please take a few minutes to complete the HCDSB Strategic
Plan Monitoring Survey: http://bit.ly/StratPlanSurvey2021. The survey will be open
from June 9th until June 23rd. Results will be used by senior staff to help evaluate our
progress in meeting the goals of our Strategic Plan “Focus on Our Students: Strategic
Plan 2016-2021” and will be included in the “Directors Report to Trustees – Year 5 of
Implementation” in the fall. The survey is completely anonymous, and all data will
be stored and protected by Research & Development Services. Questions about the
survey can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
St. Thomas Aquinas News
STA is looking forward to welcoming your child to our school community. In support of their transition to secondary school, we offer a mentorship program for all Grade 9 students. Mentors are students in Grade 11 who assist in the smooth transition of our Grade 9 students into the daily life of our school. Your child will be paired up with a mentor who will be a support and guide through their first year at STA. In order to best match mentees with mentors, we are asking that your child complete the following survey. This survey will help us match your child with a mentor based on common interests. Please use the Survey Link to complete and submit the survey. If you have more than one child attending Grade 9 in September, have each child complete a separate survey. We will leave the survey open to be completed and submitted by June 13. We are so excited to meet our future Raiders!
HCCF Annual Charity Golf Classic
Join HCCF for a fun day of fellowship and fundraising! All to help HCDSB students in need to succeed in school.
As a Catholic Community, we are called by Jesus to care for others. At the Halton Catholic Children’s Foundation (HCCF), they strive to do this by providing financial assistance to HCDSB students and their families in need – creating Hope, Dignity and Equity so that students can access learning and education without financial barriers to success.
Students at our school have benefitted from HCCF’s financial support in the past. Please consider supporting them so that they can continue to say “Yes” to helping HCDSB students and families with basic necessities (such as food and clothing, school supplies, shoes, eyeglasses, personal hygiene items, and learning technology).
You are invited to support the 10th Annual HCCF Charity Golf Classic on July 20th – Piper’s Heath Golf Club. Golfers, sponsors and prizes are needed.
Not a golfer? Please pass this information along to someone who is, or consider making a personal / corporate donation.
