“The best way to show my gratitude to God is to accept everything, even my problems with joy – Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Thank you for reinforcing at home the importance of wearing masks with your children. They are doing an excellent job following this protocol and we appreciate your support. We would also kindly request that parents wear masks if they are dropping off or picking up their students when getting out of their cars. During these times, there are more people gathering outside of their cohorts so we appreciate your co-operation in keeping everyone as safe as possible!
Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters – Sept. 30th
September 30th is recognized as Orange Shirt Day. This day acknowledges the residential school system and recognizes the harm they did to Indigenous children’s sense of self-esteem and wellbeing. We are encouraging our staff and students to wear orange shirts (uniform bottoms must be worn) to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
Cell Phone Use
A reminder that student cell phones are only to be used under staff supervision. They are for academic use or in case of emergency and a student needs to call home (as they are not allowed to use the office phone). In both circumstances, a staff member must supervise their use. Please do not text or call your child on their phone during the day. If you need to give them a message, please call the office and we will make sure they receive it. Thank you for your co-operation.
Code of Conduct
Our Code of Conduct was reviewed with students regarding the expectations and routines that make St. Vincent School a wonderful place to grow and learn at. Our code of conduct is in the front section of the student agenda and also posted on our website here. Please review and discuss it together with your child.
Class Photos Postponed
Edge is committed to maintaining safety first and will continue to closely monitor and comply with all board and provincial orders related to COVID-19. As they are still awaiting clear direction from the school board and public health department on fall photo days, all photo days scheduled through the remainder of 2020 will be postponed. They will update schools when they are able to safely come and take pictures in the new year.
Fire & Lockdown Drill – Sept 29th
We will be having our first fire and lockdown drill on Tuesday, September 29th. In keeping with the public health protocols, the Fire Marshall has sent school boards the protocol for conducting drills during COVID-19. Each class/cohort will perform the drill separately to ensure physical distancing is maintained according to public health guidelines. A one time alarm will ring and then each class will be prompted to conduct the drill through the PA system. If there is an actual fire alarm outside of our drills, all students would evacuate according to our fire plan.
School Council Meeting – Oct. 5th
We will have our first Council Meeting on Monday, October 5th virtually through Microsoft TEAMs at 7 PM. Parents who submitted and/or received a nomination have been notified of their position on council. A link to the online meeting will be emailed to members before the meeting. Should parents who are not on council want to attend the meeting, you can request the link by contacting the office.
There are still 2019-2020 yearbooks available for purchase. The cost is $27. If you’d like to purchase one or unsure if you already did back in June, please email Mrs van Hooydonk at the office.
