“He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of His birth, for He will be great in the sight of the Lord.” ~Luke 1:14

The Season of Advent

This week we light the pink candle in our Advent wreath.  Historically the pink or rose candle is called the Gaudete candle, from the Latin word meaning “rejoice.” The third Sunday of Advent is also known by some Christians as Gaudete Sunday. It is an important reminder in the Advent season of preparation, of the JOY that is ours in knowing the power of love in our lives. As you light your candle(s) for each week of Advent invite all who gather to share in this prayer:

God, send your light into our hearts and fill us with joy,
as we prepare for the birth of your Son.
Transform our lives into images of Jesus
so that your light will shine through us.
Lord, fill the world with your peace, hope and love this Advent.

Christmas Cheer at St. Timothy’s

As previously shared in our Christmas Cheer overview (add link) throughout the Advent season, staff, students, and community will enjoy many different fun activities. This past week, we filmed our Virtual Christmas Concert, and we enjoyed our Crazy/Cozy Christmas sweater day on Friday, December 10th.  Parents will receive the link to the Virtual Christmas Concert for their viewing enjoyment at home later this week!

The fun continues this week, as we enjoy “Christmas Music in the Halls”.  Over 50 students signed up to volunteer for this initiative!  Every day this week, they will be singing and playing instruments at various stations outside and within the school, to spread joy and good cheer, in the grand tradition of Christmas caroling.  We thank them for sharing their gift of music and thank Mrs. Grenier for spearheading this event.

On Wednesday December 15th, we will be celebrating Joy Day at St. Timothy. Children will be completing Advent and Christmas themed activities in their classrooms. All students are encouraged to wear red and green Christmas tops with uniform bottoms.  Of course, uniform is always appropriate and welcome.

As previously noted, St. Timothy School will be hosting a Christmas Trivia Night on Thursday, December 16th, at 7:00 p.m. All St. Timothy families are welcome to join.  A special thank you to Mrs. Maxwell, who has donated beautiful cookie basket prizes for the winners of our 5 Kahoot! Games.  We are blessed to have this opportunity to bring our St. Timothy families together as a community during this season of Advent. Information regarding this event will be found on your child’s D2L page. Families are invited to wear your fun festive attire, including Christmas colours (red, green, white) and tag us in your Twitter posts @StTimothyHCDSB.

Finally, Friday, December 17th is our Christmas jammies/cozies day and is our Early Dismissal Day.  Please note that dismissal will take place at 1:50 p.m. that day. Bus drop off times will be adjusted accordingly.  Please ensure that your family has a plan in place for after school care for your child.

Flip-Give comes to St. Timothy!

COVID restrictions and lockdowns made on-line shopping popular last year. Since you may be shopping on-line again this year, please note that St. Timothy has recently teamed up with “Flip-give”. Flip-give is an app that receives a commission when used and shares the profits with the school. Many sports teams have used this service and several HCDSB schools are beginning to use this program as it has proven to be quite successful.

The school earns cash back on every purchase you make all year long! All you have to do is shop anytime with the brands you already love, like Home Depot, Walmart, Sport Chek, Indigo, Old Navy, Apple, Esso, and Loblaws.  Please note that you may also purchase gift cards through Flipgive and the school would receive cash back.

Join our team now using this link:

This is the St. Timothy code: KGK9SW

Please consider downloading the app for Flip-give, entering our code, and supporting the school, each time you make an on-line purchase that you would normally make anyways. There is nothing additional to purchase, and your participation is anonymous. We thank you for considering this option!

Looking ahead to the New Year – Optional Lunch orders

Given the positive response to our optional lunch programs, we will continue with Subway sandwiches on Tuesdays and Pizza on Thursdays throughout the rest of the year.

Please note that Subway sandwiches through Lunchbox can be ordered on Cash-on-line: a gentle note to look for “the blue message bar” on School Cash-on-line when ordering Subway sandwiches.  Orders for any given Tuesday must be placed by noon on the previous Sunday.

For Pizza, our next block of time for enjoying pizza lunches will run from January 13th, 2022 until March 31st, 2022 (excluding March break, of course!).  Orders can be placed on School Cash-on-line anytime from Monday, December 13th until Sunday, January 2nd.  Please note that there is no pizza lunch on January 6th, 2022.

Looking ahead to the New Year – COVID-19 Updates

On Tuesday, December 14th, your child will be taking home a Rapid Antigen Screening Kit for voluntary use over the Christmas holiday.

The rapid antigen screening kits have been provided by the Government of Ontario for every student who attends in-person learning at a publicly funded school.  These kits may be used by any student, regardless of their vaccination status, however, should only be used when a child is asymptomatic (does not have any symptoms of COVID-19) and has not had any exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Please note, your child’s participation in this rapid antigen screening is voluntary and is not a required action for return to school after the Christmas break.

Please be reminded that, as we did for the first two weeks of the school year, when we return to school in the new year, confirmation of daily screening of COVID-19 will be required for all students, staff and visitors during the first two (2) weeks of January.  Parents will find a tracking sheet in the inside cover of their child’s agenda to sign off that they completed the screener and received a “Go to school” check.

Finally, a gentle reminder to follow federal directives related to international travel and quarantine requirements

We thank you for your ongoing support as we work closely with the Ministry of Education and Halton Public Health to help keep our community safe and healthy for all.

A warm hello – Welcome Mrs. Luke!

St. Timothy is pleased to welcome our new (temporary) Office Assistant, Mrs. Luke.  She has already begun with us and has been a wonderful support at this busy time.  Special thanks to Mrs. Davoren, our School Secretary, for helping Mrs. Luke to get settled in!

A special good-bye – Congratulations, Miss Nancy!

Miss Nancy, our beloved Custodian, is retiring, after nearly 30 years of loyal service to our school community.  Miss Nancy has done a wonderful job of maintaining this large building and the grounds, ever vigilant to our needs, and to high standards of safety.  Throughout the pandemic, she has gone above and beyond, supporting us with the additional workload that the battle against COVID has demanded, and doing it all with a positive, co-operative spirit that will be dearly missed.  Miss Nancy’s invaluable work, her kind, approachable manner, and her wonderful humour, have contributed to making St. Timothy’s a safe, happy place where children can learn and grow together.  Selfishly, we are sad to see her go, but we are so happy to know that she will be able to enjoy her loved ones and her preferred activities at her leisure.

Congratulations, Miss Nancy, on your well-deserved retirement!  May God bless you richly as you embark upon this next chapter in your journey!

St. Timothy Tips:

A special thank you to our Parish partners at St. Paul’s, for their support in creating Advent videos for our students.

A gentle reminder that seating for Christmas Masses at St. Paul’s will be on a first come basis. The Parish will not be using online booking for attendance. Once the church is full, ushers will direct parishioners to the parish hall where the Mass will be broadcast on the large screen.

Please note the following Mass times for Christmas and the corresponding time the doors will open for seating.

  • December 24th 5:00 pm Mass: doors to open 4:15 pm prior.
  • December 24th 7:00 pm & 9:00 pm Masses: doors to open 30 minutes prior.
  • December 25th Midnight: doors to open 11:15 pm with Carols at 11:30 pm
  • December 25th 9:00 am & 11:00 am Masses:  doors to open 30 minutes prior.

We continue to draw on our faith and offer prayers for the safety and well-being of those who are sick, and those who are working on the frontlines to care for them.
