Black History Month
Each year, students and staff across the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) are invited to participate in Black History Month, to honour and pay tribute to Black Canadians, both past and present. For 2020, the theme of the Government of Canada’s Black History Month campaign is: Canadians of African Descent: Going forward, guided by the past. Starting Monday we will listen to daily announcements focusing on Black Canadians that have left a legacy on our country. Thank you to Ms. Slaven and her Grade 5 class for this important learning for our school.
National Sweater Day
St Timothy school will be participating in National Sweater Day on Thursday, February 6th 2020. On this day we will be turning down the heat, so students should wear an extra warm sweater over their full uniform.
National Sweater Day is a way to learn about the importance of saving energy and to inspire you to use less energy all winter. Heating accounts for 80% of residential energy use in Canada. If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just 2 degrees Celsius this winter, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 megatons – that’s equivalent to taking nearly 700,000 cars off the road!
The Kindergarten Division will be participating in 2 initiatives to “help make today the best day for someone else”. Our first initiative is to raise funds for “Food for Kids”. The kindergarten division will be selling Valentines Cookies. Each cookie will cost $2.00 and will be available on Cashless to purchase from January 27th to February 4th. (Unfortunately, there will be no late orders accepted due to shipping deadlines). The cookies will be delivered to your child’s classroom on our school celebrated Valentine’s Day – Thursday February 13th.
Our second initiative requires the assistance of our school community. We will be collecting, sorting and preparing toiletry kits for the Salvation Army Lighthouse Emergency Shelter in Halton region. We are asking for your help!!! Each grade is asked to donate items for our kits. Every item helps!!! We will be collecting these items from Monday February 3rd to Monday February 10th. The kits will be organized and assembled by our kindergarten classes for Valentines Day.
- Kindergarten – shampoo and conditioner
- Grade 1 and 2: soap and adult socks
- Grade 3 and 4: hand and body wash
- Grade 5 and 6: deodorant
- Grade 7 and 8: toothbrushes and toothpaste
Happy Valentines Day with thanks from Kindergarten
Save the Date- Valentines Day Dance-A-Thon
We are excited to announce that our Catholic School Council will support our school in having a Valentines Day Dance- A- Thon on Thursday February 13th 2020.
The funds raised from this event are used to support many initiatives which directly benefit our students.
The success of this fundraiser is built on the involvement of our parents. Our Dance a Thon committee will be working with our community partners to obtain prizes but relies on parent donations also. Some examples of prizes that children look forward to are board games, movie certificates, craft supplies and gift cards (even the smallest denomination). If you or your family is affiliated with a local business, we would greatly appreciate a donation on behalf of that business. All donations will be mentioned in school communication to show our gratitude. All prize donations can be sent directly to your child’s classroom teacher labelled for Dance a Thon no later than February 7th. We thank you in advance for the continued support and please watch for further information regarding this event as we get closer to Dance a Thon day.
Please see attached further information that was sent home on Friday, January 24th 2020 (Dance-a-thon 2020)
