School Update – December 17th

A Message from the Principal

On behalf of the staff of St. Teresa of Calcutta, a heartfelt thank you for your continued partnership with our school this year. Our staff recognize and appreciate all the efforts of our families to ensure that our students are safe, happy and learning while at school each day. We are also sincerely humbled by all of the wonderful Christmas gifts that have been shared with us.

Most especially, we would like to thank you for your generous contributions to our Star of Hope Outreach campaign. We collected $1900 and our Catholic School Council donated an additional $1600 to support families in need. Special thanks to Mrs. Lisa Ryce, our Council Chair for her leadership and support of this campaign and to our wonderful secretary, Ms. Jennifer Myers for distributing and delivering many of the baskets.

We have enjoyed weekly Advent liturgies. Thanks to our kinder and primary team, under the leadership of Mrs. Laic and Mr. Prezens, for an awesome “virtual” Christmas Kahoot! on December 16th. This was complete with prayer, poem, song and dance. Many thanks to our students and educators for your leadership and for allowing us to join as a faith community to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ!

May the Peace, Joy and Love of Christmas fill your heart and home throughout this season.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

Similar to our return to learning in September, all schools have been directed by the Ministry of Education to collect confirmation of the completion of the daily COVID School Screen for the first two weeks of January. Log sheets have been sent home with all students this week for parents/guardians to use to track the daily screening. Alternatively, parents/guardians can email results daily to the teacher or students that have their own device can share these results with their classroom teacher before entering the school. Please note, that this is mandatory and while we certainly appreciate that morning can be busy at home, we are kindly asking for your assistance in completing this safety measure for students and staff members.

A reminder that the Government of Ontario daily self-screening tool must always be completed each day by families prior to your child’s arrival at school. The screening tool can be accessed here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Christmas Break Travel

With the holiday season approaching, it is understood that some families will choose to make travel plans over the break. A reminder to ensure that you follow federal directives related to international travel and quarantine requirements. You can access the most up to date travel directive from the federal government below.COVID-19 Travel, Testing, and Borders

Rapid Antigen Test Kits

The rapid antigen screening kits that have been provided by the Government of Ontario have been sent home with our students. These kits may be used by any student, regardless of their vaccination status, however, should only be used when a child is asymptomatic (does not have any symptoms of COVID-19) and has not had any exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Please note, your child’s participation in this rapid antigen screening is voluntary and is not a required action for return to school after the Christmas break.

Directions on how to use the rapid antigen kit are below. Rapid Antigen Test Kit Instructions

Winter Break Travel

With the holiday season approaching, it is anticipated that many staff, students and families will choose to make travel plans over the break. We would like to remind families to follow federal directives related to international travel and quarantine requirements
