This coming Education Week, on Wednesday May 8th from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm we invite all students and families to our French Café and Scholastic Book Fair to share in a very special Open House in our library. As a school community, we will be celebrating the unveiling of Julia’s Cozy Corner – a space in our library dedicated to Julia McQuinn, a beloved grade 7 student who passed away at the age of 12 in August 2016 due to Aplastic Anemia and complications of her bone marrow transplant.
This delightful space reflects Julia’s spirit, her endless joy and energy and her love of stories. It’s a place for everyone to read, reflect and enjoy the world of books. As always with our Scholastic book fair, book purchases will be available – and a special table will be set up for book donations for those who wish to purchase a book to donate to our library in Julia’s name or in the name a person you wish to honour. Note: cash or cheques only please for book donations
Dragonfly bracelets will be for sale, and a face painting station will set up for Dragonfly ‘tattoos’. All proceeds are going to Julia’s Cozy Corner and Julia’s charities: The Oakville & Milton Humane Society, and The Lighthouse for Grieving Children.
|The Dragonfly Symbol & Story
A dragonfly was chosen as a symbol by Julia’s family, friends and classmates (class of 2017) as it is a spiritual symbol of transformation and renewal. Please take time to read The Dragonfly Story when you visit Julia’s Cozy Corner.
