Public Speaking @ St. Teresa of Calcutta School
Feb 20 all day

St. Teresa of Calcutta School will be participating in the HCDSB Public Speaking Competition this year. If your child wishes to participate in the school level competition, please be aware of the following:

-The Public Speaking Competition is open to students in the Junior and Intermediate grades;
-Participating students may deliver their speech in English or French;
-While all students benefit from the participation in oral language activities that involve higher order thinking skills, student participation is voluntary;
-All students who wish to prepare a speech for the Public Speaking Competition, may do so on their own time. Students will not be provided class time to rehearse or practice their speeches.

When preparing a speech, students are reminded that an effective communicator:
-presents information and ideas clearly and honestly and with sensitivity to others;
-writes and speaks fluently in one or both of Canada’s official languages;
-uses and integrates the Catholic faith tradition, in the critical analysis of the arts, media, technology and information systems to enhance the quality of life.

The Board Public Speaking Competition will take place on Wednesday March 20th at St. Teresa of Calcutta for students who have advanced on from the school level competition. Students who advance onto the French Regional Public Speaking Competition will present their speech at Our Lady of Fatima School in Milton on Thursday, March 28th.

For further questions, please connect with your child’s teacher. We wish all of our students the best of luck. St. Teresa students are outstanding individuals of high moral character with strong Catholic values and who hold incredible potential to bring about profound change. We have so much faith in you and wish all contenders the best of luck!
