Weekly Update: January 3rd-7th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy New Year and welcome to January 2022! We trust that all our Stormie families had a restful break and an opportunity to spend time together as a family at Christmas. We are excited to return to in school learning on Wednesday, January 5th!

Please refer to the information updates below:

RETURN TO CLASS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5TH FOLLOWING THE BREAK

As noted in Director Daly’s December 30th letter to parents, the Chief Medical Officer of Health announced additional measures that will be put in place to help curb the spread of COVID-19 across our province. One of these measures is related to schools and requires all publicly funded elementary and secondary schools to delay the return to instruction for all students until Wednesday, January 5, 2022.   Read the News Release here

As noted in the news release:

  • Schools will be closed to all students on Monday, January 3rd and Tuesday, January 4th.
  • No in-person or remote instruction will take place during this time for any students, including students with special education needs and students currently enrolled in our virtual school, St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Elementary School.
  • In-school and remote instruction will resume for all students on Wednesday, January 5th.

Additional measures that will be in place in schools include:

  • The province will be updating the COVID-19 school and childcare screener ahead of the return to school on January 5 as well as updating COVID-19 reporting requirements for school boards and child care in January.
  • The province will be supplying three-ply cloth masks for students in January.  These masks will be distributed to families once we have received them from the Ministry.
  • The province has also committed to deploying additional standalone HEPA filter units to school boards.
  • The Ministry of Education has provided a limited quantity of PCR self-collection kits for symptomatic students and education staff. These kits will be distributed in consultation with Halton Region Public Health.
  • Starting in January, HCDSB interschool sports will be paused until further notice.

MANDATORY DAILY SELF SCREENING AND RETURN OF CONFIRMATION OF SCREENING

Parents and guardians must continue to perform daily screening of their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms BEFORE arriving at school using the  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

DAILY CONFIRMATION OF SCREENING RETURNS – Until further notice, the Ministry of Education has asked us to complete “Confirmations of Screenings” for all students again. This means that we must put in place a mechanism for parents to confirm to their child’s teacher that the daily COVID-19 screening has been completed. Please use the same method your child’s teacher communicated when we did this the first 2 weeks of the school year. If daily confirmation of screening is not completed for this first two-week period, parents will be contacted to complete the screening or pick up their child(ren) from school.

Please note that if a student or staff member does not pass the daily COVID-19 screening, they cannot come to school. They must follow the instructions provided on the daily self-screening tool and report their absence to the school.

If this is the case, based on theupdated screening tool all household members should also self-isolate as well.

Halton Public Health have provided two flowcharts with specific instructions for individuals who have symptoms, and those who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive to COVID-19.

Please refer to the appropriate chart for instructions:

IF YOUR FAMILY HAS TRAVELLED…

Families who have travelled outside of Canada over the Christmas break are reminded to monitor updates to federal travel directives and mandatory isolation periods for students. Please refer to the Government of Canada’s instructions for travellers from outside Canada for more information.
