Weekly Update: November 8th-12th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”

As we embark on a new week, we first want to thank our Grade 8 students and teachers for preparing a beautiful Remembrance Day liturgy. This liturgy asks us to remember those that have given up so much for us in their quest to bring peace to the world. The call to be peacemakers in our school, in our family and in our community, is especially important as we begin to prepare for Advent and the birth of Christ, the Prince of Peace. It is a time for us to ready our hearts, minds and souls and we ask the important question “How do I exemplify Peace in our World?” We are looking forward to our liturgy on Thursday, November 11th at 10:45 a.m.

Please refer to the information updates below:

NOVEMBER IS INDIGENOUS AWARENESS MONTH

November is Indigenous Awareness month at HCDSB. The Equity and Inclusion team at St. Scholastica has developed our Virtual Bulletin Boards for this month based around Indigenous Awareness Month. These boards are focused on important dates such as Treaty Recognition Week (Nov 1 – 5), Inuit Day (Nov 7), Indigenous Veterans Day (Nov 8) and Louis Riel Day (Nov 16). Each picture is linked with a video or resource to help guide educators in discussion about these important conversations to acknowledge the contributions and legacy of First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples in Canada. We are excited to have these conversations with our students to acknowledge the importance of Indigenous Awareness month.
