Weekly Update: November 29th-December 3rd

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In the midst of our hurry, as we prepare for Christmas, the Holy Season of Advent calls to us. This call to God’s people reminds us to slow down and wait “in joyful hope” as we do what we can to prepare for Christ’s coming. The word itself, Advent means coming or arrival. Advent is a time of preparation, a time to get our spiritual houses ready for the coming of Christ, anticipating his second coming and actively remembering his first coming to earth as a baby. Advent is a time of desire, longing and expectancy.

PROGRESS REPORT TECHNICAL ISSUES

There have been some Board-wide technical issues with distributing this term’s Progress Reports.  The issues involve the HCDSB’s switch to a new Student Information System that is called Power School.  If you still haven’t received or haven’t been able to access a copy of your child’s Progress Report, let your child’s teacher know and then a hard copy can be sent home by the teacher. The teacher’s have class sets of the reports printed out and can easily send one home.

COVID-19 ITEMS: CONTINUED IMPORTANCE OF DAILY SCREENING AND TRAVEL GUIDANCE

With the holiday season fast approaching, families may be considering travel plans. The Ontario COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening tool is to be completed every day of the week, including weekends and holidays. The screening tool will help individuals decide if they should or should not go to school when they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or have recently travelled outside of Canada. Current travel guidance from the Government of Canada states that if your family is travelling outside Canada for any reason, students not vaccinated against COVID-19 cannot attend school, camps or childcare for 14 days upon returning to Canada. As travel guidance is subject to frequent change, it will be important for families to review the requirements by the Government of Canada before making any travel arrangements outside of Canada: COVID-19 Requirements for fully vaccinated travelers and unvaccinated children less than 12 years of age.

PARKING LOT REMINDER – DROP OFF

Parents are reminded again about our parking issues.  With our large staff, there are very few parking spots available at drop off.

PLEASE consider parking elsewhere and walking your child.  Respect the signs on the street that indicate no stopping areas. Some good news is that the Town of Milton is placing a crossing guard at Whitlock and Mulroney beginning November 29th.

We have also had issues with cars parking in our marked wheelchair accessible parking spots. We do have students at the school who use a wheelchair daily and these parking spots are essential. Do not park there without the proper permit.

ANGEL TREE

The Christmas season is upon us, and this year St. Scholastica will be sponsoring “The Angel Tree.” It is an excellent opportunity for families to show kindness and generosity to those in our community during this special season of Advent. This year we will be supporting Halton Children’s Aid Society to help families in our community. Together with YOU and our community partners we can assist children, youth, and families in need. During the holidays, our goal is to brighten the holiday season by providing necessities and gifts to those who have been referred to this program.

This year, Halton Children’s Aid Society is asking for different forms of donations such as gift cards, items for Comfort Kits, and items for Life Start Kits.

Click here for details. Please return all donations by December 13th. Thank you for your continued support.
