Weekly Update: November 1st-5th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to November! We had a Spooktacular time at our Dance-a-Thon on Friday! We were pleased so many students were able to enjoy the merriment that day. Thank you to our Catholic School Council for arranging for a sweet treat and a glowstick for each student and to our Intermediate Student Council for organizing fun events such as our Door Decorating Activity, Pumpkin Decorating Contest and Class Costume Prizes!

A huge thank you to all for your generous financial support in our fundraising initiative!

Please refer to the information updates below:

HALLOWEEN DANCE-A-THON FUNDRAISER

St. Scholastica held our Halloween Dance-a-Thon on Friday, October 29th. Amazing costumes and energetic dancing! Congratulations to Luca P., Fernanda D., Oliver C., Marissa A. and Paula A. who are our themed gift basket winners (drawn from all students who brought in pledges). We will announce the 3 Top Pledge prize winners, Divisional Top Class Collectors and our grand total on Monday, November 1st. Your generous donations are much appreciated and will go a long way to support student learning at St. Scholastica!

HALLOWEEN CANDY AT SNACK TIME

After the excitement of Halloween Trick or Treating on Sunday, bags will be full of candy and treats. If your child is bringing any of these treats to school for a personal recess or lunch snack please keep in mind our students who have life threatening allergies.

Please Note: St. Scholastica is an allergen reduced environment and even at Halloween, we must adhere to HCDSB protocol around foods coming into the school. Please monitor any foods coming in for snack to ensure that they comply with the information below:

‘Products that contain or ‘may contain’ peanuts and tree nuts are not to be brought onto school site.’

PARKING LOT REMINDER – KISS & RIDE DROP OFF & PICK UP

As our school has grown, our parking lot has become busier as well. For those who are choosing to drive their child(ren) to school and/or pick up after school, you MUST park in a parking spot. We are seeing an increase of adults stopping their cars in non designated parking spots and getting out to go to the Kinder gate to drop off in mornings and at dismissal.

DO NOT park and abandon your vehicle where it blocks the flow of traffic.

At morning drop off, St. Scholastica staff are on duty in the Kiss & Ride area to assist Grade 1-8 students in opening the car door and help children exit the car on the passenger side. Parents of Grade 1-8 students should stay in the car in the Kiss & Ride area. If you choose to walk your child to the gate, ensure that you park your car in a parking spot. If one is not available, you may also park off school property in the community and walk to the school yard.

Parents of a Kindergarten child who needs to have a “direct eye contact hand off” to a staff member at a Kindergarten entry door MUST park their vehicle in a designated spot on our lot or within the neighbourhood.

Please share this information with anyone who will drive your child(ren) to or pick up from our school.

11TH ANNUAL HCCF EVENING WITH BISHOP CROSBY – VIRTUAL EDITION

Wednesday November 17, 2021 – Reception at 6:30pm; Main Event at 7:00-8:30pm

The Halton Catholic Children’s Foundation (HCCF) supports HCDSB students in need with basic necessities (i.e. food and clothing) & with school activities that have a fee (i.e. team or club fees).

“With this funding the foundation has gratefully reduced the stress impacting the family and helped to ensure access to basic needs.” – HCDSB Social Worker

HCCF needs our help so they can continue to say “yes” to helping HCDSB students with financial barriers to learning.

They are looking for companies to be a sponsor at the event and for community members to purchase tickets and to donate.

It is NOT another Zoom call. They are using https://www.kumospace.com/ so you can have fun and interact with your friends. Enjoy a meal and your favourite beverage while you catch up with others.

Join the Halton Catholic Community for an entertaining experience where you can connect with your friends and hear Bishop Crosby’s stories, sense of humour and wisdom.
