Weekly Update for Week of May 10th, 2021

New to Canada Networking

St. Scholastica is hosting a virtual meeting for Newcomers to Canada on June 2nd, at 6:30.  Please note, this meeting is for parents and guardians who, themselves, were born outside Canada.  The purpose of this gathering is to provide Newcomers an opportunity to network with families in our St. Scholastica community who are also born outside Canada.  We will have representatives from HCDSB’s Welcome Centre as well as community service representatives in attendance.  There will also be people available to help with translations from English to your spoken language.  So that we may tailor the event to meet your needs, we are asking parents and guardians, who are planning to attend, to please answer a few questions by clicking on the following link:

School Climate Student Survey

In an ongoing effort to promote safe, inclusive, and accepting schools, HCDSB will be administering an online School Climate Survey for students beginning the week of May 10th, 2021.  Please refer to the message that was sent to you on May 5, 2021.  Please click on the link to review the FAQs for parents and guardians.  Please note, this survey is for students in grades 4-8 only.

Kindergarten orientation

Hello to our New Kindergarten Families and welcome to St. Scholastica School!

We are very excited about your child joining our school community next year.  If your plans have changed regarding your child’s registration, please send an email to our secretary, Mrs. Suzanne Hyland, ( as soon as possible so that we can better plan for the numbers of children in our classrooms as of September.

We are so sad that we did not get a chance to host our live Kindergarten Information Night as we have done in the past due to the current situation with COVID-19.  In place of this evening, our Kindergarten educator team has put together a presentation that you can view from the comfort of your own homes!  The link below can be clicked on, and you will be directed to this presentation.  At the end of the presentation, we have included instructions for where to submit your questions to our Kindergarten team.  Our question portal will be serviced every day until June 12th, 2021 and then all answers will remain visible to the questions already asked.  We know that this is not as ideal as having a face-to-face opportunity for you to voice your questions, but given this current situation, this method will hopefully still provide you with the information that you are wondering about.

If you have a child registered in kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year, an email with a link to the presentation, will be sent to you.

Grade 8 graduation will be celebrated in the afternoon of Friday, June 25.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we cannot gather as we normally would, to commemorate our graduates.  We will be sending out further details closer to the date.
