Weekly Update: Week of October 5th, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have very successfully gone through another great week and it is due to the collective efforts of staff, students and your commitment at home.  Our safe return to school continues to be our number one priority and we are all making choices that are keeping our schools open!  We sincerely thank you for your decisions to follow Halton Public Health and Milton bylaws around social distancing and personal bubbles.  As we move towards Thanksgiving weekend, we are imploring you to continue to practice all the great things you are doing so that St. Scholastica can stay open.

New Changes to the COVID-19 Screening Tool for Children

On October 1, 2020, the Ontario government released changes to the COVID-19 School Screening Tool used to monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in children.

The guidelines continue to evolve as we learn more about COVID-19, how it spreads, and how it affects children and adults in different ways.

The updated screening tool offers a more comprehensive checklist of the type and number of symptoms needed for a child to stay home for a period of time and seek medical advice.

Please note that the COVID-19 School Screening Tool is not to be used as a clinical assessment or intended to take the place of medical advice; a diagnosis or treatment.

The online COVID-19 Screening Tool will be updated soon to include these new revisions.

In the meantime, you are asked to keep screening your children for COVID-19 each day using the updated guidelines in the link below: October 1st Update – COVID-19 Screening Tool for Children

As always, the health and safety of our students, staff and families is our highest priority, and we will continue to take direction from the Ministry of Education and Halton Region Public Health to ensure all protocols are in place and followed in each of our schools.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to keep our school communities healthy and safe for all.

Change in Learning Environment

Please note the survey providing families with the opportunity to change whether they want to opt-in/out has closed and no changes in placement will be given at this time.  Parents/guardians can make changes again at the next opt-in/opt-out window which will see the survey opening again in December.

Uniform Reminders

As St Scholastica’s community has decided to be a uniform school, we are reminding parents to please ensure that the dress code is being followed.  Please ensure that your child(ren) is/are wearing navy blue (not black) bottoms with no writing and/or logos.  Tops are to be uniform tops purchased from ISW.   Please contact us if you would like uniform assistance.

There are a few yearbooks still available.  The year 2020 will go down as a unique time in all our lives.  Don’t miss out on a memento for your memory bank.  The yearbook captures pictures from September when we were in school as well as memories from March to June when we were learning virtually.  There are only 185 books available for purchase and availability is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don’t miss out!

Thank you to everyone using the kiss-and-ride safely!  If you are picking up your son/daughter, you must park in a designated spot or on the road.  If you are in the loop area, you must remain in your vehicle.  Once again, we are asking you all for your cooperation and support as we continue to provide a safe and efficient way to drop-off and pick-up your children.

Family information packages/Forms

As you know, family information packages and forms have been sent home.  These provide us with a great understanding of your children and help us make decisions on your behalf.  For example, video/photo permissions.  With this form, we can determine whether your child is represented in school and classroom social media (Twitter).  Please ensure that you send in your forms as soon as possible.

Father James Petrie-Children’s Liturgy

Saint Benedict Parish usually offers a children’s liturgy program at the Sunday Masses, however, due to the coronavirus situation, we have been unable to so.  Nonetheless, we are offering a virtual children’s liturgy program.  You can either access it by going to the parish website ( or by clicking the link:  It is a wonderful way to allow your child to read the current Sunday readings and there are a number of various activities.  Please check it out!

God bless,

Father Jim Petrie
