As a school community, we look forward to celebrating Halloween with our students on Friday, October 30th, 2020. While our observance of Halloween will look different from past years, we want to recognize the occasion with our students.
This year St. Peter CES invites all our students to wear an appropriate Halloween costume! Students may want to consider wearing their favourite sports jersey, an extra-curricular uniform (e.g., Sea Cadets, Girl Guides, dance outfit, basketball/hockey/soccer jersey), ‘orange and black’ clothing items, or consider making a costume with used clothing items that you have around the house! For those students that prefer not to participate, the St. Peter CES school uniform is also an option.
Due to COVID-19 safety protocols within the school, costume props, masks and face make-up are not permitted at this time. While we want to enjoy the day, all Public Health safety protocols must be adhered to throughout the day (e.g., safety masks, hand hygiene).
Halloween is a great time to dress up and have fun with costumes. In our Catholic community, we are focused on promoting respect, inclusion and empathy for all individuals. As students and staff members select Halloween costumes, we encourage them to reflect critically, be mindful of cultural appropriation, while aiming to create an environment that is welcoming for all.
At St. Peter CES we strive to ensure that our students see themselves and their classmates reflected in their studies. Families should expect their interactions within our school community to leave them feeling accepted for who they are. Halloween Candy and Treats:
Although we encourage our students to celebrate the spirit of Halloween, we cannot accept any food or candy items at school.Thank you for your understanding. If you wish to provide non-food items for your child to share (e.g. Halloween pencils or stickers), please send them to the school no later than Monday, October 26th, 2020 so they can be quarantined prior to being shared with the class.
Let’s Scare Hunger Food Drive:
As per past practice, we will be hosting a Let’s Scare Hunger Food Drive the week of October 26th, 2020. Students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items between October 26th – 30th, 2020 that will be donated to a local food bank. Storage containers will be set up at each door of entry and students will be able to place their food item in the container on their way into school in the morning. Once the items have been properly quarantined, we will deliver them to the food bank. Thank you for your support and generosity.
We will not be hosting the annual St. Peter CES Halloween Dance-a-Thon this year, however we are planning a similar event to be held by the Catholic School Council later in the school year…more information to follow.
