MAY IS THE MONTH OF THE VIRGIN MARY
May devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary refer to special Marian devotions held in the Catholic Church during the month of May honouring the Virgin Mary as “the Queen of May”. These services may take place inside or outside. A “May Crowning” is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual that occurs in the month of May.

HCDSB DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN
We wanted to remind you of the importance of staying connected and participating in ‘Distance Learning’ during this time of school closure. If your child has not logged onto their virtual classroom or has not been submitting their work for a few days, your child’s teacher(s) may reach out to you to see if there are any additional supports that we can offer you to assist in making the learning successful.
Please remember to take care of your health and the well-being of your family. Halton Region has provided an updated resource for families to refer to if in need of assistance: Halton-Food-Supports-for-FamiliesDownload
The Board also continues to provide many helpful resources listed on their website.
Many of our students have participated in classroom Christian Meditation. Our students and staff find that it brings students a sense of calm and is a natural ‘reset’ to engage in learning. Please find the following links to support Christian Mediation at home if you are interested in trying it:

CLASS PLACEMENT 2020 – 2021 SCHOOL YEAR
St. Peter CES has begun the process of preparing tentative class lists for the 2020 – 2021 school year. Thank you to those parents/guardians that submitted class placement requests last month.
When creating classes, the following criteria are given due consideration:
- Student personality
- Student’s academic strengths and needs
- Creating a group of students that allows for flexible instructional groupings
- Attempting to create a balance of males and females when possible
- Creating a heterogeneous group reflecting the diversity of students of differing abilities, needs and interests
- Creating classes that give students the opportunities to form new friendships, and meet different academic and social challenges
Keeping these criteria of class formation in mind, our school staff:
- Develop an individual profile of every student’s academic, social, and emotional strengths and needs
- Tentative groupings are compiled, and a team of staff members discusses and makes suggestions regarding the groupings
- The class lists then remain tentative pending possible school enrollment changes
The objective of this organization process is to achieve the most practical heterogeneous combination of student groups. With your trust in our professional judgment, we will continue to provide all students with the best possible learning environment.
PROMOTING WELL-BEING: MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness can reduce the risk of depression, help with anxiety and boost the immune system. These skills can also be applied to maturely navigate challenging peer or family interactions.
Remember to speak kindly to yourself, everyone has good and bad days. Don’t be too hard on yourself! Pause and make sure to take time for yourself during the day, listen to music, take a few deep breaths, go for a mindful walk. Maybe your family can try a mindfulness video together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRkILioT_NA
