DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ENDS…

Reminder: that Daylight Saving time ends this weekend. Clocks are to be turned back one hour on Sunday as we return to standard time.

HALLOWEEN DANCE-A-THON UPDATE

The Halloween Dance-a-Thon on Thursday, October 31st, 2019 was a tremendous success! The gymnasium was decorated beautifully, and the students enjoyed dancing with their classmates. Special thanks to all the parents, grandparents, and family members that joined us. Further thanks to all the Catholic School Council members and parent volunteers that assisted in planning, organizing, setting-up/taking-down and hosting the event.

We will be announcing the total funds raised from the event this week, as well as, sharing the top individual student fundraisers and overall top-classroom fundraisers!

‘WE SCARE HUNGER’ FOOD DRIVE

Our Catholic Student Parliament is pleased to announce our annual ‘We Scare Hunger’ Food Drive is back! According to our Catholic Graduate Expectations, we are called to be responsible citizens who promote peace, justice and the sacredness of human life. We feel that stocking our local food bank is a good way to live our faith. Please donate canned goods and non-perishable food items throughout the rest of the month of October and into November. We will be keeping classroom totals and calculating the overall number of items collected in the weeks ahead.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

Congratulations to our Grade 7 students as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, November 1st, 2019 (1:30pm) at Holy Rosary Church. We would like to thank Bishop Dan, Father John, Mme Borscok, Mrs. Johnston, and St. Peter CES staff members for preparing our students to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. May God Bless all of the candidates!

PROGRESS REPORT CARDS & COMMUNICATION OF LEARNING DOCUMENTS

Progress Report Cards for Grades 1 – 8 students and Kindergarten Communication of Learning: Initial Observations will be sent home on Wednesday, November 20th, 2019. We will be holding Parent-Teacher Interviews for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students at the school during the evening of Thursday, November 21st, 2019 and all day on Friday, November 22nd, 2019. Once again, this year, you will be able to schedule your Parent-Teacher Interviews online. More information will be emailed out to families on Monday, November 4th, 2019.

Parent/Teacher Interviews: “We know that parents have an important role to play in supporting student learning. Studies show that students perform better in school if their parents or guardians are involved in their education. This is the basis for the principle that students and parents should be kept fully informed about the student’s progress.”  ~ Growing Success, page 8.

HCCEF NEWS – Bishop’s Dinner: Wednesday, November 6th, 2019

The Halton Catholic Children’s Education Fund is an independent charitable organization, registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. Since 2012 they have partnered with the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) to support their students and families in need. Schools identify the student or family in need and apply to HCCEF for assistance. Funding is used to purchase the need on behalf of the student or family. They do not receive any direct funding from HCDSB. Schools regularly donate to HCCEF with the understanding they may need to access the fund several times during the year.

The major fundraiser for HCCEF is “An Evening with Bishop Crosby”, a $75 a plate dinner event that takes place this Wednesday, November 6th, 2019 at Le Dome in Oakville. As a school community, we have purchased a number of tickets in support of this great charity. Thank you to the members of our school community that will be representing St. Peter CES at this event on Wednesday evening.

REMEMBRANCE DAY LITURGY

Mark your calendars! Please consider joining us for our Remembrance Day Liturgy on Monday, November 11th, 2019 @ 11:15am in the gymnasium.

PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY

Edge Imaging will be returning on Tuesday, November 12th, 2019 for picture re-takes.

OUTDOOR WEAR

With the fall weather upon us and our windy playground, please remember that it is that time of year when our weather changes drastically throughout the day. Layering is a great solution for our students to ensure that they have the proper wear. Please note that children in the Kindergarten program may be outside during all types of weather, so please make sure to come prepared to play outside.

PROMOTING WELL-BEING: FREE WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR WELL-BEING

The good news is health and wellness doesn’t discriminate and is available for all levels of income. The following suggestions are for anyone interested in strengthening one’s well-being – without weakening the wallet…we will highlight one of 12 ways in our updates:

Meditation

No time to exercise? Can’t be bothered to write your feelings down? Mediation may be what the doctor ordered, and the benefits may be seen in a mere 5 minutes! The good news is that meditation is free; the bad news is it takes some time to hone the skill. This is especially true if we can’t stop thinking about our “To Do” list or picking up the kids from school.

Once we are able to focus on the present, focus only our breathing, and calm our minds, we will benefit from the emotional and physical health effects of this ancient practice. From reducing negative emotions and gaining a most positive perspective to managing chronic anxiety, pain, and sleep problems, meditation may be the panacea of good health. https://www.activebeat.com/diet-nutrition/12-free-ways-to-enhance-your-well-being/2/
