Weekly Update – June 22 – Year End Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As the end of the school year approaches, listed are a few important informational items and upcoming dates.

Curbside Pick-Up of Student Belongings

A gentle reminder to please sign-up for an appointment to pick up your children’s belongings for either Tuesday June 23rd or Wednesday June 24th. Please use the Kiss n Ride loop upon your arrival – please stay in your vehicle at all times and follow the directions of St. Nicholas staff. Pick up/drop off will take place at the front of the school in our bus loading zone.

If your son/daughter have any borrowed materials to return (i.e. sports jerseys, technology, library books, textbooks, etc.) bring them to the school and staff will be on site to receive them.  Label the items with your child’s name and the teacher’s name to assist with inventory. If you are returning technology, don’t forget the chargers!

Please be aware that all medication is being sent home via your child’s classroom teacher this week on the day of pick up.

Please note that only parents or guardians will be permitted to arrive at the school site. Students will not be able to access the school or playground. Prior to your scheduled drop off or pick up time please review the HCDSB Elementary School Curbside Access for Student Belongings Protocol for Parents. This document was emailed out the previous week.

Distribution of Report Cards

This year, considering the school closures due to COVID-19, student report cards will be delivered electronically. The report cards will be delivered directly to parents and guardians by email on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.
Parents and guardians will need their child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) in order to access the report card. Your child’s OEN number can be found on a previous report card.   The Ministry has waived the expectation for both a teacher and parental signature for this reporting period.  The School Principal’s electronic signature will appear on all student report cards.
As with all reporting periods, parents and guardians may contact their child’s teacher to arrange a time to discuss the report card.
You are also welcome to contact our school administration or with any questions or should you require further clarification.

Class Placement September 2020

You can access information about your child’s class placement on Friday, September 4, 2020, after 9:00 a.m.  The information will be available on the Board’s website at: On the Home page, please click on the “Schools” tab and then on the “School Listing” tab in the drop-down menu.  You will be directed to the school listing page, on this page, please click on “Class Placements”, beside the appropriate Elementary school name.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to access this information, you will require your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN), which can be found on his/her report card.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s class placement, please contact the school office.

Courtesy Seats on School Buses for the 2020-2021 School Year

Families with children who take the bus to school are advised that the application process for receiving courtesy seats on school buses will be delayed for the 2020-21 school year. Due to physical distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it may not be possible to grant courtesy seats or the process may be delayed for next school year.
Parents and guardians can continue to submit a Courtesy Seat Application, and will be notified via email once a decision on this process has been made.
Please note that there is no guarantee that a courtesy seat will be offered if you submit an application, or if your child had a courtesy seat in the past. Visit the Halton Student Transportation Services website for more information:
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time

Grade 8 Graduation

Congratulations to all our Grade 8 graduates. We thank all our students and families that joined us last week for our Curbside Graduation.  We wish all our graduates continued success as they move onto High School. Just a reminder that our virtual graduation will be emailed to families this Wednesday June 24th.

Parents of Students with Medical Conditions

This year, copies of the Student Plan of Care will not come home in June. The Plan of Care will continue as is. Upon return to school, the Student Plan of Care will be sent home for parents to review and update if necessary.

If your child has a change in their condition over the summer, please inform the school in the week prior to students returning. Please contact Mrs. Spotswood – in this case.

Catholic School Council – Thank You!

We would like to thank all the Parent Representatives on the St. Nicholas Catholic School Council for all of their efforts and support throughout the year. We encourage parents/guardians to consider being a part of the school council in the upcoming school year. More information about School Council Nominations/Elections will come out in late August/September.

Staff Good-Byes:

June is a time for change and as always, there are staffing changes to announce. We say goodbye to Ms. Paiement, Ms. Stowe, Miss. D’Gama Rose, Mr. Mayo, Mr. Sengbusch, Miss. Wozniak, Mr. Swan and Mr. Gavin.  We thank all of them for their contributions to our school community and wish them all the best in their next placement within the HCDSB.

Finally, it has been an interesting year! We would like to thank all our students and families for their support and understanding as we navigated through Distance Learning. We are so proud of the effort and commitment of our staff and students. As we look ahead, we remind families to please check the school and Board websites for up-to-date information regarding the start-up for September 2020.

We wish all of St. Nicholas families a safe and healthy summer!

God Bless

Mr. Cacciola and Mrs. Spotswood

God of wisdom,

We thank You for all the gifts You have given us throughout this school year.
