Weekly Update February 7th

Good afternoon,

The St. Nicholas School Sharing the Spirit award recipient this year is Gr. 8 student, Elena V. She will be honoured at a special ceremony in April, at Jean Vanier Catholic High School. Congratulations Elena, we are very proud of you as you continue to make a difference!

February is Black History Month!

Black History Month in Canada provides an opportunity to share and learn about the experiences, contributions and achievements of peoples of African ancestry. It was initiated in Canada by the Ontario Black History Society and introduced to Parliament in December 1995 by Jean Augustine; the first Black woman elected as a member of Parliament. Black History Month was officially observed across Canada for the first time on February in 1996. We look forward to the various school-based activities taking place in our classrooms throughout the month of February. For more information visit

Winter Weather

Students are reminded to please dress for all winter conditions. Students should have hats, gloves, and boots to enjoy the outdoors. All students need winter boots and our Gr. 1-3 students will also require snow pants. All students should have a change of footwear to keep the school safe and dry. Any questions regarding our winter protocol can be directed to the main office – Thank you for your understanding and support. Inclement Weather Safety Procedures and Inclement Weather Transportation Cancellations and Emergency School Closures are posted on our school website.

Attendance: A reminder that as a school we are monitoring student attendance.  We strive to work in partnership with families to help ensure that your child is at school regularly.  We will be communicating with parents when we start to notice a higher number of absences.  The purpose of our initial communication is to make families aware of the number of absences and to offer support in ensuring that students are at school regularly, as well as offer support for students in catching up on missed work. Please note that for absences greater than 8 days a letter may come home informing you of the number of days absent and offering support to ensure students are at school regularly. Additional information can be found in the attached document.  Attendance-Info-Sheet-stoplight
