Weekly Update June 27

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As the end of the school year approaches, listed are a few important informational items and upcoming dates.

Term 2 Report Cards: Report Cards for Grades 1 – 8 students and the Kindergarten Communication of Learning Documents were distributed on Tuesday, June 25th, 2019. Please return the response forms by Thursday, June 27th, 2019.  For students who are away on vacation, report cards will be held in the Main Office for pick-up when the school re-opens on Monday, August 26th, 2019. Alternatively, report cards may be mailed out provided that a request is received in the office by Thursday, June 27th, 2019. Please indicate your child’s name and local mailing address.

Last Day of School/Early Dismissal: A reminder that the last day of school for the 2018-2019 school year is on Friday, June 28th with Early Dismissal at 1:50 p.m.

Medical Conditions: A reminder for families who have students with medical conditions, please take note that documentation packages for the 2019-2020 school year were sent home on June 24th to be updated over the summer and then returned the last week of August (Aug 26-30).  Please remember that ALL medication, including epi-pens and inhalers, housed at the school for your child MUST BE picked by June 28th.  Any unclaimed epi-pens and inhalers will be sent home in your child’s backpack on June 28th.  Any non-prescription medications (e.g., Advil) will be disposed of as per our typical practice.

2019-2020 School Year: The first day of classes for the 2019-2020 school year will be on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019. Grade 1-8 classes will begin at the usual 8:50 a.m. start time. The School Year Calendar can be accessed using this link:

Please be advised that all HCDSB elementary schools utilize an electronic format of informing parents of their child’s placement for the upcoming school year This information will be available on the Board’s website at: . On the Home page, please click on the “Schools” tab and then on the “School Listing” tab in the drop-down menu.  You will be directed to the school listing page. Once you have arrived on this page, please click on “Class Placements”, beside the appropriate Elementary school name.  All elementary student class placements will become live on Friday, August 30th, 2019 at 9 a.m. Instructions on how to access this information will be posted on our school website and we will remind parents via e-mail the week of August 26th, 2019.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to access this information, you will require your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN), which can be found on his/her report card.

Kindergarten Entry 2019: A reminder of our staggered entry for all kindergarten students.  Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th, 2019 are dedicated for kindergarten educators to conduct interviews for new kindergarten students (Year 1 and Year 2).  Thursday, September 5th, 2019 is full entry for all Year 2 (SK) students and half of the Year 1 (JK) students.  Friday, September 6th, 2019 is full entry for all Year 2 (SK) students and the other half of the Year 1 (JK) students.  Monday, September 9th, 2019 is full entry for Year 1 students.
Catholic School Council: We would like to thank all the Parent Representatives on the St. Nicholas Catholic School Council for all of their efforts and support throughout the year. We encourage parents/guardians to consider being a part of the school council in the upcoming school year. More information about School Council Nominations/Elections will come out in late August/September.

Staff Good-Byes:  We wish all the best to those staff members who will be leaving St. Nicholas Catholic School in June and thank them for their outstanding contributions to our school community: Ms. Romaniw, Mrs. De Meo, Mrs. Churey, Mr. Sengbusch, Mr. Lucibello, Miss. Henstridge, Miss. De Silva, Miss. Martinac, Mrs. Pomirko, Ms. Meisner, Mr. Mondejar, Ms. Crowe, Ms. Wenze, Mr. Gavin, Miss. Ball and Ms. Sparrock-Kumar.

God of wisdom,

We thank You for all the gifts You have given us throughout this school year.

We praise You for giving us life, for saving us in Christ and for choosing us to be Your people.

As we come to the end of this school year, we voice our gratitude for the good things

You have done in us, and we praise You for all who have shared in the work of this


We ask You to bless them in Your love and give them refreshment and peace.
