Weekly Update September 13-17, 2021

Welcome Back & Thank You!
We had an amazing first week back at St. Michael, and we appreciate all of the preparation and practice you did with your children at home to help them get ready. We are so proud of how quickly everyone adjusted to our routines and procedures. We appreciate your support in completing the daily COVID-19 screening and sharing the results with us. Please continue this practice every day!

Family Consent Forms & Medical Forms
NEW this year– Family Information / Consent Packages are found online. Please complete the online form for each of your children as soon as possible: https://laserfiche.hcdsb.org/Forms/parent_consents. This is to replace the paper copies that used to be completed during the first week of school.

Medical Forms (anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, etc.), are returned, updated, and submitted to the office, along with any necessary medication by Tuesday, September 14. This information is critically important when dealing with a medical emergency at school.

Daily Self-Assessment of COVID-19 Symptoms
All students (K-Grade 12), staff and visitors are required to complete the https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ daily before the start of school as directed by the Ministry of Education and Halton Public Health Services. PARENTS are asked to continue to complete their Confirmation Screening Log kept in your child’s agenda for this week.

Student Safety at Entry and Dismissal
While we know that you want to ensure that your children enter and leave school safely, please remember that we need to avoid congregating. Please leave school property immediately after dropping off and picking up your child.
NO parents are access the schoolyard blacktop, (playground). If you bring your child from the back of the property, remain on the grass. If you come from the parking lot areas, remain at the orange pylons or sidewalk of kindergarten gate. While we love our four-legged friends, some children are afraid of dogs, some children have allergies, and some dogs can be unnerved by our busy parking lots. Therefore, DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED school property unless they are service dogs.

Dress for the Weather
We will be outside for recess under all but the most extreme weather conditions. Please dress your children appropriately for the weather. In light rain, we will still be outside for recess.
Parking Lot Safety
Student safety when coming to school and going back home is very important to us!
A reminder of the following safety tips and school regulations:

School Start & End Times
No students are allowed on school property until 8:35 a.m. If students arrive early, there are to remain in the orange pylon area in the Church Lot and are not to enter the school yard. Students are not supervised until 8:35 a.m. We end the day at 3:20 p.m. Students who are walking home are to leave the property immediately and head home. Our buses have been running late, ensure you sign up for TRANSPORTATION NOTIFICATIONS at https://www.haltonbus.ca. The school will supervise students until the buses arrive. Calling the school when buses are late, we can’t always answer the calls, sign up for notifications.

Virtual Curriculum Night – Wednesday September 22, 2021
We are excited to celebrate student learning via a virtual curriculum night. Each homeroom teacher will host two virtual presentations. Parents will receive a Team invite from their child’s teacher by Monday September 20, 2021.

Safety For ALL

  1. Do not use the driveway in front of the school during the morning arrival or after school dismissal. It is reserved for buses or after school program & buses.
  2. If you drive your child to school, please park in a spot and walk your child to the orange pylon safety area. Park only in designated spaces as we do not have a Kiss N’ Ride
  3. If you cannot maintain a 2m distance between yourself and others at pick-up, please wear a mask.
  4. If you drive to or from the school, please remember be patient and courteous, drive slowly and be vigilant for pedestrians/children.

Reminder About Lunch/Snacks/Water Bottles
We need to limit the number of people coming to the school throughout the school day. Please make every effort to ensure that your children have what they need before they leave the house in the morning.

INVITE: Catholic School Advisory Council
Each year parent(s) are invited to join the Catholic School Advisory Council. Parent voice is very important as we raise the children in partnership. The Catholic School Advisory Council meets a minimum of 4 times (first Monday of most month 6:00-7:00 p.m.) We hope to be in-person this year, we will begin in a virtual format. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Riesberry, riesberryj@hcdsb.org by Friday. September 17, 2021. Many hands, minds and voices are important.

Fair Notice – Duty to Report and Attendance
Every year H.C.D.S.B. reminds our families of school staff’s professional duty to report. As well, we also remind our families of their responsibility to ensure regular attendance at school. Please review both which were sent directly to parents via School Messenger.
