School Renovation Update – February 17th, 2020
I hope you enjoyed your Family Day Weekend!
You will notice when you arrive to school on Tuesday, February 18th that the construction fencing is now up. This fencing has created a safety barrier for the construction site, which now blocks access to our side door, Door #4. We are now limited to specific entrances and exits, as well as recess play areas. Below is an outline of things you need to know as you come to the school to drop off and pick up!
Safety is always our highest priority, and I want to reassure you that students and staff will not have access to any area under construction now that the fencing has gone up. These areas, both outside and inside, are now blocked off and accessible to contractors only.
Please continue to follow current practices for morning drop off – through the church parking lot at the side. Students in Grades 1-8 will need to exit the Church Parking lot at the REAR OPENING and enter onto the field to the back pavement area beside the Portable. Students in Kindergarten can continue to use the opening by the church and the school and follow the pathway to the Kindergarten yard. The church parking lot gates are no longer accessible. The front of the school will still be used by our Buses, and bus students will enter through the school to get to the back pavement area.
Regular pick up can still happen using the Church Parking lot. Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will continue to EXIT out their normal door (Door #3 at the side beside the church). Students in Grades 2-8 will now exit out the back and can meet parents at that back entrance through the field. We will have a staff member at that entrance to ensure that students are not entering the parking lot without an adult present. Bus students will exit through the school out the front door to their bus lines. As well, any students that are WALKING HOME along Sewell Drive will exit through the school and out the front door.
Starting on Tuesday, our lunch hour routine will change slightly. Grades 1-4 will continue to eat first (at 11:50am) inside while students in Grades 5-8 go outside for their outdoor recess time. At 12:20 the students will switch: Grades 1-4 will go outside and Grades 5-8 will come inside to begin eating. Any lunches dropped off at 11:50am will still make their way to their classrooms!
Regardless of these changes, we will still have proper supervision, and access to outdoor play in a contained safe area! There should be no disruption to drop offs and pick ups, and student and staff safety will always be at the forefront. All staff will be reviewing this with your children on Tuesday as we work through the changes. Hopefully it will only take a few days to settle in to this new routine!
