Weekly Update – Feb. 10th – 14th

Celebrating our Students!

Each year, the Halton Catholic District School Board asks each school to select two distinguished award recipients. This year, St. Matthew Catholic School congratulates grade 8 students, Emma Braho and Luca Baggetta, for receiving the Student Award of Excellence and Spirit of Inclusion Award respectively. Valentine’s Day Celebrations and Formal Day:

This Thursday, February 13th, students are invited to wear their “Sunday Best” as we celebrate Valentine’s Day! Students dressing up in formal attire and/or red/pink is optional for this spirit day. As part of the celebrations, students will have a scheduled time to dance with their classmates in the gym (please click here to see the schedule). Parents are invited to join classes during their time in the gym. We are asking for a small donation ($1/ $ 2), with proceeds going to our Lenten Kits for Kids initiative. We kindly ask parents not to send any food items (including candy) for Valentine’s Day as we have many children with anaphylatic allergies. We welcome other items with cards, such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. Thank you for your cooperation.

Student Illness:

As we continue through the winter, the rate of student illness will be elevated. We respectfully ask that students remain home if they are too ill to be at school or their illness poses a risk to others.  If students are recovering from sickness, but are still not well enough to go out for recess, we ask that they remain home.  Unfortunately, additional supervision cannot be guaranteed for students who are not well enough to be outside for recess. We thank you for your understanding.

Family Skate – Sunday, February 23rd:

We will be having our annual family skating event on the afternoon of Sunday, February 23rd at Glen Abbey Arena from 2:00 – 3:30 pm (blue rink). This event is now open on our cash online system and will remain open to families until Thursday, February 20th. The cost is $15/ family. We look forward to seeing you there!

Celebrating Our Catholic School Graduates!

We are excited to announce the launch of our new HCDSB Alumni Award.   The HCDSB Alumni Award has been designed to celebrate the graduates of our system who embody the attributes of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations (OCSGEs).  Beginning this school year, and each year moving forward, we will recognize seven (7) HCDSB Alumni Award recipients during Catholic Education Week.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2020 HCDSB Alumni Awards – deadline for submissions is Monday, March 30, 2020.  Learn more about the selection criteria and nomination process here.
