As we enter the third week of Advent, we keep in mind and pray for those in our school and broader community, especially those who may find this time of year difficult.
Lord, you fashioned our hearts to be satisfied with nothing less than Your love
which overflows for us in Christ. As we continue our journey through Advent, rekindle within us your gifts of hope and joy, and turn our expectant waiting into readiness to welcome Him in all persons we meet. We make this prayer to you in the name of Jesus, your Son. Amen.
We look forward to this upcoming week as we continue our Advent and Christmas celebrations. Please note below the events taking place this week. We also want to remind parents and students that it is crucial we maintain our diligence with ensuring we are sending peanut/nut safe snacks to school. Please remember that snacks/treats for the entire class are not permitted. Thank you for your continued support in keeping all students and staff safe.
- Christmas Shopping Spree – We will have our annual event on Tuesday for our students. A special thank you to all parent volunteers who have been working so hard to make this event happen! Please send a shopping bag with your child/ren on this day. We will also accept wrapping paper donations if possible.
- Spirit Days – We will have two spirit days, led by our Student Ambassadors. Tuesday, December 17th will be a pajama day and Friday, December 20th will be a Christmas spirit day. While these are non-uniform days, students are reminded of our dress code and appropriate attire for our Catholic learning environment.
- Sock & Mitten Drive – If you still would like to donate a new pair of socks and/or mittens/gloves, you still have one more day! Please ensure they are brought in tomorrow (December 16th).
- Early Dismissal on Friday, December 20th – Please note that Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM and that our Grade 1-8 students will be dismissed at 1:40 PM. We look forward to welcoming everyone back after their restful holiday on Monday, January 6th.
Parent Volunteer Opportunities:
Parent involvement is an essential part of any school community. We continue to see strong parent involvement at our school, which ensures that so many events and traditions continue for our students. At this time, we are looking for parent volunteers to lead our Pizza program and perhaps a couple other school events. If you are interested, please contact us in the office and we will connect you with our volunteer coordinators. Please remember that you must have an updated criminal record check (vulnerable sector screening) or declaration in the office. Thanks in advance!
Family Vacations During the Holidays – If you plan to leave early for a family vacation, or, you will be on vacation when classes resume in January, we kindly ask that you inform us. Please inform classroom teachers and the office. Trips of 5 consecutive days or longer will require signing forms in the office. We also ask that you ensure absences are recorded in School Messenger (App or calling). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us in the office.
Winter Uniform Swap:
St. Matthew is having another uniform swap! Thank you to many parents who brought items before and after the Christmas concerts. If you would still like to participate, please send in the items of clothing you wish to swap with your children, or bring them into the office. Your family’s name and how many items submitted will be recorded. During the exchange, you can choose the same amount as donated (2 items donated = 2 new items to choose from)
The exchange will be taking place January 8th from 3-5pm in the school gymnasium. Only families who have participated/donated items for the uniform swap can attend on this day.
On January 15th from 3-5 pm, we invite parents to visit the school to purchase used items – this event will be open to any parent who is interested. Each used uniform item will be $5.00. Please bring cash.
