First Week Back!
Thank you to the St. Mary community for a great first week back! A big thank you to our parents for following our safety protocols on the school yard before and after school. Thank you to the amazing St. Mary staff for the great start up. We were so very excited to see the students back! Please read the information below – this may answer some questions you may have.
Daily Self-Assessment of COVID-19 Symptoms
All students (K-Grade 12), staff and visitors are required to complete the https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ daily before the start of school as directed by the Ministry of Education and Halton Public Health Services.
Additionally, all students will be required to provide confirmation that they have taken and passed the assessment upon arrival at school. Verification will be conducted by the homeroom teacher during morning attendance.
If your child has a serious medical condition, your child’s plan of care was available for you to pick up in June. Please be sure to update and sign the Plan of Care and return to school with your child this week. If you cannot locate the Plan of Care, or if your child is new to the school, or has a new medical condition, please email Mr. Sneyd to request a Medical Care Package. St. Matthew Sacramental Information Meeting
The parish is sending flyers home soon. The virtual meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m.
Family Information / Consent Forms
Parents are asked to complete the form, which may be accessed HERE. The form should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete. If you already submitted a consent form, no further action is required.
Important Notes Before Completing the Form:
If you have more than one child enrolled in an HCDSB school, please complete a separate form for each child. Only one parent/guardian is required to complete a form for each child. You will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to submit this form. The OEN can be found on a recent report card. The form can be completed using a computer, smart phone, or tablet.
If you experience a problem submitting a form, please use a different browser or different device. If you have tried a different browser and device and are still experiencing issues, please send an email to email@example.com.
Catholic School Council Nominations
Role of Catholic School Council: Ontario Regulation 612 states that every school must hold elections for the School Council within the first 30 days of each school year. The term of office is one year. We want to encourage every parent to consider volunteering to sit on the Catholic School Council this year. The school needs active and interested parents to maintain the quality of the school community we enjoy and to address the challenges the community will face in the future. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org and a nomination package will be sent to you electronically. If elections are required, then the names of candidates and a one-page information biography sheet, if available, will be posted on our school website. This year, if required, elections for our 2021/2022 Catholic School Council will take place in September according to the following timelines:
Nomination Forms Due: Friday, September 24th Profiles Due (if required): Tuesday, September 28th
Council Elections (if needed): Thursday, September 30th
First Council Meeting: Monday, October 4th at 6:30 pm Meetings will be held “virtually” (using Teams). Dates & times will be posted on our school web page. All parents are welcome to attend regular Council meetings. Meeting dates will be posted on our school web page. The meetings will begin at 6:30 pm. and will be held virtually via Teams online.
Returning School Resources
With our return to school you may have found some overlooked textbooks, library books, or technology that belong to the school. Please return anything that belongs to St. Mary School as soon as possible as other students will benefit from those resources. Thank you.
Parking Lot Safety
Student safety when coming to school and going back home is very important to us!
A reminder of the following safety tips and school regulations:
- Encourage your children to use crosswalks and walkways.
- Do not use the driveway in front of the school during the morning arrival or after school dismissal. It is reserved for buses or after school program pick ups.
- If you must drive your child to school, please follow the traffic flow rules in place at the north and south sides of the school. Stop or park only in designated spaces and not in the Kiss N’ Ride
- If you cannot maintain a 2m distance between yourself and others at pick-up, please wear a mask.
- If you drive to or from the school, please remember: be patient and courteous; do not block the main road thoroughfares; drive slowly and be vigilant for pedestrians/children.
Reminder About Lunch/Snacks/Water Bottles
We need to limit the number of people coming to the school throughout the school day. Please make every effort to ensure that your children have what they need before they leave the house in the morning. That said, we know how easy it is to forget things. If you need to drop off something at that school for your child during the day, please call in advance so we don’t have multiple people arriving at the same time.
