Follow Up – Public Health Investigation Completed

November 19, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As a follow up to the message you received last night about the new confirmed case of COVID-19 in our St. Mary school community, we wanted to let you know that Public Health completed their investigation today.

Based on their investigation and assessments, they have identified the individuals in our school community who are considered to be at high-risk of exposure and those considered to be at low-risk of exposure. These individuals have been contacted directly and provided additional instructions from Public Health.

We have attached a letter from Public Health to our community.

COVID-19 Advisory Board
As a school, we have to track and record all confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our community, and our school board also tracks current active cases and any cohorts that have been closed as a result of Public Health direction to self-isolate. This new confirmed case, as well as a closed class, reflecting the cohort of close contacts who have been told to self-isolate, have been added to the Advisory Board.

Maintaining Privacy and Confidentiality
As always, maintaining confidentiality is critical. Please be especially careful when communicating about these matters that you are respecting the right to privacy of every child, parent and staff member in our school community.  Let’s continue to demonstrate kindness, compassion and respect for each member of our St. Mary Catholic school community.

Keeping Our School Community Healthy and Safe
Please keep monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19 in your children and completing the daily screening tool each day before sending them to school –https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/.

An important reminder to parents, that if any member of your immediate family tests positive for COVID-19, all members of the family must stay home and self-isolate, even if they have no symptoms.

This is a very anxious time, and as parents, you naturally have concerns when it comes to the health and safety of your children and your family. You have our commitment that we will continue to be transparent in our communications, and share whatever information we can. We will provide updates by email as soon as they become available. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

We are blessed to be a part of such a strong, vibrant and caring school community.  Working together, we will continue to do all we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within our school community.
