Change to Learning Environment for Elementary Students – Request Form CLOSES this Evening!
The online form to request a change to your child’s learning environment in elementary school (i.e. virtual or in-person) is now open. Please visit link for more information.
Please complete this form ONLY if you would like to make a change to the learning environment that your child was in prior to the Christmas break. If you want your child to remain in the same learning format they were in before the break, no further action is required. The online request form CLOSES TODAY at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 14th.

UPDATED COVID-19 SCHOOL Safety Measures
For the safety and well-being of all students and staff, parents and guardians must perform daily screening of their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms BEFORE leaving for school using the Government of Ontario daily self-screening tool – https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in this screening tool, should stay home / must not attend school and seek assessment from a health care provider if needed.
Mandatory Daily Confirmation of Self-Screening- ACTION REQUIRED
As we prepare to welcome our students back on Monday, January 17th, please note that we must verify daily confirmation of COVID-19 screening from all students (K-Grade 12), staff and visitors, as we did earlier this year, in September.
Verification will be conducted by the homeroom teacher during morning attendance.
Our PARENTS of Intermediate Students will be provided an Electronic Form Link that must be completed daily (will be sent by Intermediate Teachers).
Our FDK / Primary and Junior Students will be provided a copy of the St. Mark Confirmation of Daily Covid-19 Student Screening Log when they return to school on Monday, January 17th (please check FDK Communication Bag / Gr. 1 to 5/6 Agenda).
The form should be completed for each child, which means if you have more than one child then you are required to complete more than one form. PLEASE ENSURE THIS IS COMPLETED EVERY MORNING AND NOT IN ADVANCE. IF IT IS NOT COMPLETED YOU WILL BE CONTACTED BY THE SCHOOL.
If you are unable to print this form for the first day back, we will accept a written note that states and includes parent signature:
- My child has completed the Covid-19 School Screening Tool Today.
- Today’s COVID-19 School Screening Result indicates that my child CAN GO TO SCHOOL.
Students are expected to bring their own masks to wear on student transportation and at school. Non-medical 3-ply masks will also be made available by schools for students. Students should bring an additional mask to school in the event that their mask gets wet, damaged or soiled.
Please ensure that a well fitted mask is used on a daily basis. Neck gaiters (also known as neck warmers) are not recommended because they are not well secured to the head or ears and are likely to move or slip out of place. They are also difficult to remove without contamination.
Safe and Caring Return to School Presentations
All classes will be reviewing Safe and Caring Return to School Presentations on Monday, January 17th. Students will review St. Mark School COVID-19 safety measures and school routines/ expectations, so that everyone continues to feels safe, included and successful.

Advanced Kindergarten Registration
To register your child to begin Junior Kindergarten (Year 1) in September, 2022, your child must be four years old by December 31st, 2022. Children enrolled in Senior Kindergarten (Year 2) must be five years old by December 31st, 2022.
Please note: Children currently registered in the Year 1 Kindergarten program are not required to register for the Year 2 program.

Computer / Tech Return
Thank you families and students, for taking special care of devices that went home to support our students during remote learning. Please know that this equipment is instrumental in supporting all our students during in person learning and we need to ensure that our students will be able to successfully utilize this equipment upon their return to in person school. If your family borrowed laptop(s) during Remote Learning, please return the electronic device and power cord with your child or drop off at the front door, on Monday, January 17th. Please label with your child’s name and Teacher. Please drop off at Office so that we could manage returns efficiently.
Winter is here – Helpful Reminders
Please ensure your child is dressed each day to play outside at recess. Students are outside for all regular outside activities when it is warmer than -15°C. When temperatures range between -15°C to -20°C, students may remain outside for no longer than 20-minute intervals, once temperatures are colder than -20°C students must remain inside.
All Primary and Junior students wishing to play on the field when it is snow-covered must have proper boots and snow pants. Intermediate students require only snow boots if they wish to be on the field. Students are reminded that throwing of snow and ice is not permitted at school.
Preferred indoor shoe is a running shoe so that our students could participate in their GYM classes.
HCDSB Family Paint Night – Little Spirit Moon – Tuesday, January 18 – 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
HCDSB families, students and staff are invited to participate in the next online session hosted by Indigenous Artist, Moses Lunham, who will provide step-by-step instructions and explain the importance of Little Spirit Moon. Lunchbox Orders / Pizza Day
This week’s Lunchbox Orders will be delivered to St. Mark on Wednesday, January 19th at lunch. Gentle reminder that food orders are due Sunday by noon through SchoolCashOnline.
Due to Pizza Day being missed these past 2 weeks, we will be extending first round of Pizza orders two weeks past our end week of Feb 25 to March 11th. So our second orders for the year will start after March Break.
Grad Photo / Retake Day – Jan. 20, 2022
We will have our Graduates photographed first and then any student whose parent(s) has requested a retake through Edge Imaging will follow. Please write a note or write in the your child’s agenda to inform your child’s teacher. We will be following our Safety Plan (i.e. sanitizing high touch areas) between classes.
Food Bank Friday – Jan. 17 – Jan. 21 Blitz
January is a time of new beginnings and making resolutions. Let’s make it our resolution at St. Mark’s to help those that are less fortunate and vulnerable in our community. Friday, January 21st is our first food bank Friday of 2022. You can make a cash donation, or the most needed items are rice – 1 kg or 2 kg sized, baked beans, juice boxes or cans of juice, personal hygiene products, canned fruit, canned vegetables, coffee or tea or condiments like ketchup, mustard, or relish. January Spirit Days
Fri. January 21 – As per Student request – Civvies Day – Non Uniform Day! We will be supporting Burlington Food Bank, on this day.
Wed. January 26th – We will be praying for and bringing attention to mental wellness on this day via public announcements. Students / Staff are invited to wear BLUE for Bell “Let’s Talk” Day.
Holocaust Memorial Day
On Thursday, January 27, our St. Mark School Community, together with HCDSB, will recognize and participate in the annual United Nations International Holocaust Awareness Day. Through prayer and activities we aim to raise awareness and explore the voice and perspectives of Holocaust survivors.
Parking Lot / Kiss’n Ride Safety
Kindly use the parking lot if you need to exit the car to escort your child to the FDK gate / Schoolyard stairs, or if your child needs more time to exit your car. Kiss’n Ride should be reserved for a happy send-off and a quick and safe drop off.
ALL STUDENTS will continue to be directed to go to their classrooms everyday, upon drop off. Our supervision begins at 8:55 a.m. No student should be dropped off / arriving on the schoolyard before 8:55 for safety reasons.
