Celebrating Our Catholic School Graduates!

We are excited to announce the launch of the HCDSB Alumni Award.  The HCDSB Alumni Award has been designed to celebrate the graduates of our system who embody the attributes of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations (OCSGEs).

Beginning this school year, and each year moving forward, seven (7) HCDSB Alumni Award recipients will be recognized during Catholic Education Week. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2020 HCDSB Alumni Awards – deadline for submissions is Monday, March 30, 2020.

Black History Month

We continue to learn and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation it is today!  We encourage families at home to also spend some time learning about the valuable contributions Black Canadians have made to our country. The HCDSB is in ongoing communication with the Halton Region Health Department, who are working closely with the Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario and local health care providers to monitor this situation and take actions, as appropriate. Prevention / Hand-washing Reminders

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water;
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing / sneezing;
  • If you do not have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm;
  • Clean and disinfect objects / surfaces regularly;
  • If feeling ill, please stay home.

Winter is here – Helpful Reminders

Please ensure your child is dressed each day to play outside at recess. Students are outside for all regular outside activities when it is warmer than -15°C. When temperatures range between -15°C to -20°C, students may remain outside for no longer than 20-minute intervals, once temperatures are colder than -20°C students must remain inside.

All Primary and Junior students wishing to play on the field when it is snow-covered must have proper boots and snow pants. Intermediate students require only snow boots if they wish to be on the field. Students are reminded that throwing of snow and ice is not permitted at school.

St. Gabriel Church News / Reminders

Vacation Bible Camp is set for August 10 – 14, 2020 (9:00 a.m. –4:00 p.m.).  Adult volunteers are still needed. Please email Nancy at nmeehan.saintgabriels@gmail.com.

The “Fiesta Latina” Dinner and Dance is on Sunday February 16 starting at 5:00.  Tickets are Adults $25 and children $15.  Tickets are available after all masses or you can call the office.

Catholic School Council Meeting (Added Date from last week’s Meeting)– Monday, February 10, 2020

Our Catholic School Council will be meeting once again on Monday, February 10, 2020. We will be meeting in the Library starting at 6:30 p.m.  All parents are welcome.

Ready, Set, Go! NEW FDK Parent Information Session

HCDSB with Halton Public Health will be hosting the Ready, Set, Go Parent Information Session (for families whose children will be starting Kindergarten in September 2020), here at St. Mark School on Tuesday, February 11, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the Library.

Walk to School Wednesdays / February Spirit Days for Halton Food for Thought “Feeduary”

Our next Winter Walking Wednesday is Feb. 12th . Congratulations to this week’s class winners Ms. Daly’s Grade 3 /4 Class and Mr. Faiazza’ s Grade 7 Class with the highest number of student walkers.

Our next Spirit Day is on Thursday, February 13Pink and/or Red Day. We are asking families to donate $5.00, using the school’s Cash Online System to participate in this month’s Spirit Days to help raise funds that will support St. Mark’s Snack Bin Program directly.  THANK YOU for your continued support in helping us collect funds for our Snack Bin Program!!

February 19th – Walking Wednesday and Winter Head Gear (toque / ear muffs /  fancy headband) Day

February 26th – Walking Wednesday and Wear a Touch of Pink / Stand Up to Bullying. We encourage our students and staff to wear pink and take a stand to make a difference by promoting actions of kindness, thoughtfulness, and acceptance.

Lunchbox Orders

This week’s Lunchbox Orders from “Quesada” will be delivered to St. Mark on Wednesday, February 12 for our 12:10 lunch. Gentle reminder that food orders are due Sunday by noon online at http://www.lunchboxorders.com/

Popcorn Sales

Intermediate classes will be selling popcorn on Thursday at Lunch for $2.00 / bag.

PA DAY – Friday, February 14 – No School

Friday, February 14, 2020 is a Professional Development Day for our staff, there is no school for our students. Also, please note that Monday, February 17, 2020 is Family Day and there is no school.

S.T.E.A.M: Save the Date – THURS. FEB. 20

We are hosting our Annual S.T. E.A.M. Night on Thursday February 20th in the school’s gymnasium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We hope you can join us for this wonderful event. Students from the Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School S.T.E.A.M. Club will be facilitating the activities for the night. You can look forward to coding, Lego robotics, engineering, problem solving, experiments, art, tech gadgets and more! Look out for the S.T.E.A.M. Poster that will be sent home next week.
