Administrators Update:

As we begin the final week of Distance Learning I thank you for your support as we worked together to fill the gaps and support our children during this Global Pandemic.

I am proud of our Teachers and Students quick assimilation into the culture of online learning. The daily clubs that ran and the opportunities for online student leadership through the Learning Commons, Special Education Department and Child and Youth Counselor. Thank you parents for stepping up to help with the instruction and balancing all of your commitments to do so. I feel blessed to be part of such a supportive Catholic School Community.

This week is the scheduled pick up and return of classroom items on Tuesday June 23. Please refer to the email sent to you last week with your scheduled pick up time. Please return all loaned items including technology, text books, library books and team uniforms at that time.

On Wednesday June 24: we will have our Virtual, Live Streamed Graduation Mass for all the Elementary School in our Mary Mother of God Church Parish. Thursday June 25 is the Drive through Certificate Pick Up for our Graduates as well as the Report Card release by email to all parents. Details were send home about this and are also below for your convenience.

At this time I would like to Congratulate Mrs. Ann Marie DiLeonardo and Mme. Rosemary Hlad on their Retirements. Together they have contributed almost 50 years to St. Marguerite Students as they have both been here since the early to mid 90’s! We are so blessed to have benefitted from their commitment to Catholic Education.

This is a time of year for staffing changes. We say good bye to Lysandra Mascarenhas our grade 1/2 teacher as well as PTM Graciela Ray, Marlene Esteves grade 7 and Kurt Bartlett grade 7/8. Occasional Teachers: Maria Runco, Art teacher; SERT Pamela Gallo; ESL Kerri-Lee Mullan. We welcome back Pauline Lamers SERT/ESL. We thank Cathy Pavelak DECE for her service and wish her well. Educational Assistants: Athena Yu and Anna Marques will not be back in September. Office Assistant, Suzanne Hyland will be moving on as well. We wish all of these staff members well and continue to pray for them.

Math Wiz Kid

Congratulations to Judy Feng from Mrs. Budak’s class who entered the Math League Competition and placed fourth among competitors from both Canada and the USA.

Refunds for Items Paid for by Cash or Cheque

Please note that if your family has paid for a trip or item by cash or cheque, we are unable to reimburse at this point in time. Details to follow.

Summer School Update

As a follow up to the email you received yesterday, we are writing to let you know that we have re-opened the registration portal and waitlist for the Grades 6-8 Literacy and Math ~ Distance Learning Summer Programs, taking place this July.

Due to high enrolment, all new student registration requests submitted after June 10th will be added to the current waitlist. New classes will open based on teacher availability, and registrations will no longer be accepted when classes are full.

Please note that filling out the following form does not guarantee admission into the program as spaces are limited. Parents and guardians will be contacted directly if their child is placed in a class

Graduation

We have sent out the plan for Graduation to all Grade 8 families. We will have a live streamed mass on June 24 at 7:00 pm followed by a virtual ceremony which is pre-recorded and released at the end of mass to the Graduates. Then we will hold a drive by Certificate and Award Certificate pick up the following day. Please continue to pray for our St. Marguerite Class of 2020 and the embark on a bright new future!!! The Ministry of Education has not yet released its plan for school start up in September. They have indicated that this information will be shared with all of us by the end of June.

Content and Distribution of Report Cards:

This year, in light of the school closures due to COVID-19 when you see your child’s report card this year you will see “I” in the place of some areas that could not be assessed due to the distance education period. In most cases, the curriculum content was covered and students participated. However, assessment is for the school year up until March 13 and in most cases; the content was not assess as per “Growing Success” , Ministry of Education Curriculum Document.

All report cards will be delivered electronically. The report cards will be delivered directly to parents and guardians by email on Wednesday, June 24, 2020
Parents and guardians will need their child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) in order to access the report card. Your child’s OEN number can be found on a previous report card.  

Alternative Report Cards for students will be included in the belonging pick up or mailed if necessary.

The Ministry has waived the expectation for both a teacher and parental signature for this reporting period.  The School Principal’s electronic signature will appear on all student report cards. 
As with all reporting periods, parents and guardians may contact their child’s teacher to arrange a time to discuss the report card. 
You are also welcome to contact our school administration with any questions or should you require further clarification. 

Elementary School Class Placement for 2020-2021 School Year

Elementary schools will once again use the electronic format of informing parents of their child’s class placement for the upcoming school year 2020-2021. All elementary student class placements will become live at 9:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2020. You will be able to access using your childs OEN number on the school website.

Courtesy Bus Seats

Courtesy Seats on School Buses for 2020-2021Families with children who take the bus to school are advised that the application process for receiving courtesy seats on school buses will be delayed for the 2020-21 school year. Due to physical distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it may not be possible to grant courtesy seats or the process may be delayed for next school year.

However, parents and guardians can continue to submit a Courtesy Seat Application, and will be notified via email once a decision on this process has been made. 

Please note that there is no guarantee that a courtesy seat will be offered if you submit an application, or if your child had a courtesy seat in the past. Visit the Halton Student Transportation Services website for more information: www.haltonbus.ca 

Parents of Students with Medical Conditions

Near the end of the school year, the school usually sends home a copy of current Student Plan of Care for any students with medical conditions (anaphylaxis, asthma, heart conditions, seizure conditions, diabetes, etc.). Parents would update this and return prior to end of year.

This year, copies of the Student Plan of Care will not come home in June. The Plan of Care will continue as is. Upon return to school, the Student Plan of Care will be sent home to parents to review and update if necessary.

If your child has a change in their condition over the summer, please inform the school in the week prior to students returning. Please contact Mrs. Nizic (nizicr@hcdsb.org) in this case.

Clubs and Talent Show

Big Shout out to Mrs. Baxter for running so many great clubs during distance learning and featured almost daily on the St Marguerite Twitter by @BaxterCyc. Students who were not on Twitter could participate through email Mrs. Baxter at Baxterj@hcdsb.org or their teacher to join the club on TEAMS.
