Parent Communication Week of June 7 – 11

Dear St. Luke Parents & Guardians,

As you know, the Premier of Ontario announced this week that all Ontario elementary and secondary schools will remain closed for in-person learning for the remainder of the school year. We know this decision is disappointing for many of our students, parents and staff. It has been a difficult year, and we cannot overlook the impact this extended period of remote learning has had on everyone.  The HCDSB website has a list of various resources to help support you and your family and we encourage you to seek help and reach out if you are in need of support. Never has the proverb “It takes a village…” had more meaning than it does now, and school is an integral part of that community. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Sofia Starr at sofiastarra@hcdsb.org and we will do our best to assist you!

June is National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month. Teachers will be incorporating lessons, activities, discussions throughout the month to bring awareness to our students that all children belong, all children are supported and all children should feel safe at St. Luke! History has not always demonstrated this, but we can make positive difference today and tomorrow for everyone! We are all unique, but we are all children of God! 

ACTION NEEDED: September Virtual School Confirmation Deadline is Friday, June 11:

If you are choosing a virtual learning environment for your child(ren) in September, the online Virtual School registration confirmation form linked below must be completed and submitted BY Friday, June 11th. Please complete this form ONLY if you would like to register your elementary child in the HCDSB Virtual Catholic Elementary School for the 2021-2022 school year. If you would like your child to attend school in-person, no further action is required. Some important notes before you complete this online form:

  • If you would like to register more than one child in the HCDSB Virtual Catholic Elementary School, please fill out a separate form for each child.
  • If you do not complete this online form, we will plan as though your child(ren) will be attending in-person instruction in September 2021.
  • An opportunity to change the learning environment for your child(ren) will take place through a Change of Learning Environment Form in January 2022 with an effective change date of Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

About the HCDSB Virtual Catholic Elementary School

Kindergarten Registration Reminder: If you have a child turning 4 years of age by December 31, 2021, it’s time to register for Kindergarten! We are currently planning for the 21/22 school year year and knowing our enrolment numbers and needs is essential as we make preparations. Please click here for more information on registering your child, if you have not already done so. If you have any questions regarding registration, please contact Mrs. Rosati at rosatik@hcdsb.org for more information.

Are You Moving?: If you are moving out of the St. Luke attendance boundary and your child will not be returning to St. Luke in September, we ask that you please notify Mrs. Rosati via email at rosatik@hcdsb.org as soon as possible. If you are moving out of St. Luke’s attendance boundary, but still wish to have your child attend St. Luke, please contact Mrs. Rosati who can provide you with information on completing the required Cross-Boundary Request Application.

Families Experiencing Technical Difficulties: Please call the Help Desk at 905-632-6314 Extension 500 or email helpdesk@hcdsb.org.  If, after troubleshooting your issue with the Help Desk, it is determined that you require an alternate device from the school, please contact Mrs. Sofia Starr at sofiastarra@hcdsb.org.  Please be advised that making arrangements to accommodate technology requests may take some time and your patience and understanding are appreciated.

Staff Contact List: Please note that a Staff Directory with contact emails is available on the school website under ‘contacts’.  If you need to contact school administration or a specific staff member, we ask that you please do so via email. Please avoid calling the school directly, as staff is working remotely.

Final Thought: Hope is an ethereal concept and yet so essential for human beings.  Hope for health, hope for a better tomorrow, hope for a just and loving society.  It is through our actions and words that we bring hope to others.  As ‘merchants of hope’, we are called to this service daily.  To all of you during these difficult times as you take care of your families amidst a myriad of other responsibilities, thank you for continuing to fill your children with hope each and every day.

Prayers: As we bid farewell to May and welcome June, we pray for those who feel marginalized and disenfranchised…may they come to realize that they belong, they are included and they are accepted. God’s love is unconditional and all-enveloping.
