The season of Lent begins on February 26th and we as a Catholic school community will be participating in various initiatives to encourage the students to pray, fast, and give to those in need. This year, one of the Lenten initiatives run by the Me to WE student ambassadors is the Socks 4 Souls Sock Drive for the homeless.
Of all the clothing needs of the homeless, socks are without a doubt one of the most important. Those who are homeless spend so much of their time on their feet, walking everywhere they go to get what they need to survive. Without socks, they are more vulnerable to varying types of bacterial, fungal and viral infections. Although many people and companies donate clothing to the homeless, the one thing that is often missing among the donations is socks. The simple use of a cotton sock can prevent multiple health problems and is inexpensive to provide.
We are asking families to donate ‘new in package’ adult socks for our Sock Drive. Your donations will go to Socks 4 Souls Canada, which is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to contributing warmth, comfort, dignity, mobility and health to homeless people by providing them with new clean socks.
DONATIONS OF ‘NEW IN PACKAGE’ UNUSED SOCKS WILL BE ACCEPTED FEBRUARY 10 – APRIL 6
Please consider donating a pair of socks for those in need.
