“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return” ~ Ecclesiastes 3:20

Family Day

Happy Family Day to all. A reminder that there is no school on Monday, February 15th. We wish everyone a blessed weekend spent with their loved ones.

Ash Wednesday

As a Catholic community, we are blessed to be able to come together in faith as we enter into the time of Lent. St. Joseph school will be celebrating Ash Wednesday on Wednesday, February 17th, with a virtual liturgy. This year, we will not be able to distribute ashes to the staff and students due to the health and safety protocols in place.

The Diocese of Hamilton has prepared an Ash Wednesday program that can be celebrated at home with the Gospel proclamation and a reflection by His Excellency, Bishop Crosby. Visit https://hamiltondiocese.com/

Congregating

To help minimize the spread of COVID-19, we have received Ministry direction to continue to follow physical distancing measures both inside our schools and in outside areas. School staff will be monitoring to ensure that children are not gathering in groups before school starts and after school. Please review with your children about the need to follow physical distancing guidelines and remind your older children to refrain from congregating in groups before and after school.

As a reminder, parents are also asked not to gather during drop off and pick up times, and to wear PPE (masks) on school property.

Parking Lot Snowhills

Please be advised that for student safety, children are not allowed to play on the hills after school.  Drivers have a difficult time seeing students who are sliding or playing near the bottom of the hill.

March Break Postpone

On February 11, 2021, the Ontario government provided an update on the timing of March Break for the 2020-2021 school year. The announcement indicated that March Break will be postponed until April 12-16, 2021, as a health and safety precaution to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our school communities.  This means that all HCDSB elementary and secondary instruction will continue as scheduled from March 15 through 19, 2021

Kindergarten Registration

To register your child to begin Junior Kindergarten (Year 1) in September 2021, your child must be four years old by December 31, 2021. Children enrolled in Senior Kindergarten (Year 2) must be five years old by December 31, 2021.

St. Joseph’s Tips

Ash Wednesday is an important celebration that marks the beginning of Lent.  It is a day of fasting and repentance and begins 40 days before Easter.  As we begin this season, it is important to include your child in the traditions and observances.  One of the best ways to do this is to observe them yourself.  Also, explain to them what will happen before you attend the services.  Talk to them about why we do special things during this time of year.  When children understand they are more likely to pay attention and behave in the service.
