Thank you to our students for your smiles, laughter and excitement as we begin a new school year! Our students did a fabulous job of learning our new routines and protocols, helping to keep us ALL safe!

Daily Self Screening and Confirmation

All staff and students must continue to self-screen every day before attending school. Any individuals who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool, must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool, which may include seeking appropriate medical attention as required, and/or getting tested for COVID-19.

Parents are asked to please continue to follow the steps below on a daily basis.

  1. Parents and guardians are asked to complete the COVID-19 School Screening Toolfor each child every day before leaving home for school:
  2. Confirmation of the daily screening must be provided to the classroom teacher in one of the following formats: 
  3. Email results to classroom teacher;  
  4. Show “pass” confirmation on a personal device;
  5. Initial the confirmation of screening form located in the front of your child’s agenda

SafeArrival Student Absence Reporting

The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority, and we are happy to announce we are using the new automated student attendance management system called SafeArrival.

The SafeArrival system is available 24/7, allowing you to report your child’s absence in one of three ways:

  1. using the SchoolMessenger® mobile app
  2. by logging into the SchoolMessenger®  web site
  3. by calling into an interactive toll-free phone line

enhances our existing student attendance procedure, making it more convenient for parents to report a child’s absence, and more efficient for our school office staff to follow up sooner on

Parents are asked to complete the form, which may be accessed at The form should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Important Notes Before Completing the Form:

  • If you have more than one child enrolled in an HCDSB school, please complete a separate form for each child.
  • Only one parent/guardian is required to complete a form for each child.
  • You will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to submit this form. The OEN can be found on a recent report card.
  • The form can be completed using a computer, smart phone, or tablet

Catholic School Council-are you interested in joining us?

Role of Catholic School Council:  Ontario Regulation 612 states that every school must hold elections for the School Council within the first 30 days of each school year. The term of office is one year.  We want to encourage every parent to consider volunteering to sit on the School Council this year.  The school needs active and interested parents to maintain the quality of the school community we enjoy and to address the challenges the community will face in the future. 

Nomination forms will be emailed out upon request and will be posted on our school website.

Please note:  Should we receive less than 8 nominations and candidates satisfy the requirements outlined in the regulations, they will be acclaimed.

Nomination Forms Due:  Friday, September 24th

First Council Meeting:  Monday, October 4th at 6:00 pm.  

All parents are welcome to attend regular Council meetings.  Meeting dates will be posted on our school web page.  The meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held virtually via Teams online. 

Grade 2 and 7 Parents Sacramental Preparation-St. Matthew’s Parish

The Parish has started organizing the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation

Information cards will be delivered to the school and will be distributed to grade 2 and grade 7 students to inform parents on how to register. Father Allen has updated the Parish website with information outlining easy to follow steps for parents for online registration.

Under “Sacraments” they will be able to click on “First Communion” or “Confirmation.

Arrival and Dismissal

Beginning tomorrow all Grade 1-8 students will enter the school via their assigned doors when they arrive to school in the morning. Grade1-3 student will no longer line up outside. Supervision begins at 8:30 am. For the safety of your children we request that your child NOT be on school property until a supervisor is on duty.

Children arriving late for school must first report to the office for a late slip.

We will continue with our staggered dismissal schedule

Kindergarten 3:00 pm

Grade 7-8 3:05 pm

Grade 4-6 3:10 pm

Grade 1-3 3:15pm

Parents and guardians are asked to remain behind the fenced area as our students start and end their day. At this time, parents will not be permitted to enter the school (unless there is an extenuating need, and prior approval has been obtained as per the Visitor Protocol). 


We will provide a weekly update, which will be posted to the school website and the link will be emailed out to all parents. The website will be updated frequently, including the NEWS page, where we will share information and coming events. You can subscribe to the calendar on the website so notifications can be received as dates are added.

Lunch Time Supervisor Needed

If you are interested in being a paid Lunchtime Supervisor at St. John Paul II (from 11:50 – 12:50), please contact the school and we will email you an application package.
