Terry Fox Walk

We joined schools across Canada by holding our Terry Fox Walk last week. The morning began with a lovely liturgy followed by all of our staff and students ‘dipping their toe’ into the Atlantic Ocean and then travelling across Canada as Terry did on his Marathon on Hope to raise funds for cancer research. This longstanding SJP II tradition is near and dear to our hearts and we greatly appreciate the support of our community!

Thank you to all of our families who already donated on line. We have already raised over $5700 and will be accepting donations until the end of the October. Thank you to Mrs. Steer Thackray and her Grade 8 class for organizing and leading this wonderful school wide initiative.

Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations

We will continue to focus on the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations in our work with your children throughout this school year. Each month we will pay special attention to one expectation and how it is evidenced in our relationships with family and friends, in our St. John Paul II school community, and in the larger communities of Oakville and the world. Our focus for the month of October is on being ‘A Discerning Believer’. We will focus on the following ways that students can demonstrate this expectation and encourage you to be mindful of them at home as well.

St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School | Burlington, ON » October – A Discerning Believer

I AM A BELIEVER

  • I believe that God is an awesome God.
  • I believe and have faith in God.
  • I believe that God is always with us.
  • I believe that we can talk to God anytime and anywhere, through prayer.
  • I believe in the stories of the Bible.
  • I believe in the stories of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.
  • I believe in the Church community, celebrating Mass, and the seven sacraments.
  • I believe in forgiveness
  • Because I am a believer, I will live my life like Jesus.

Daily Self Screening

All staff and students must continue to self-screen every day before attending school. Any individuals who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool, must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool, which may include seeking appropriate medical attention as required, and/or getting tested for COVID-19.

Parents and guardians are asked to complete the COVID-19 School Screening Toolfor each child every day before leaving home for school: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ Please note that although proof of daily screening is no longer required by parents, we ask for you continued diligence in completing the screening daily.

If a child experiences symptoms at school:

Please be advised, under the Direction of Halton Region Public Health, if your child and/or an individual living in your household has acknowledged that they are experiencing at least one (1) COVID-19 symptom:

· Fever and/or chills Temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius/100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher

What should you do next?

Seek medical advice for your child, and have your child tested for COVID-19 as appropriate or advised by your health care provider.

Your child must stay home and not leave except to get tested or for a medical emergency.

Siblings or other people in the home who are fully vaccinated do not need to isolate and can leave the home.

Siblings or other people in the home who are not fully vaccinated must stay home until your child:

· it has been at least 24 hours since the symptoms started improving (or 48 hours if they have had nausea/vomiting/diarrhea)

· they were not in close physical contact with someone who currently has COVID-19

· If your child gets tested for COVID-19 and tests POSITIVE:

· Your child can return to school/childcare only when cleared by Halton Region Public Health

Your child must isolate for 10 days. They may be able to return earlier if ALL the following apply:

· a doctor diagnosed them with another illness

· they do not have a fever (without using medication)

· it has been at least 24 hours since their symptoms started improving (or 48 hours if they had nausea/vomiting/diarrhea)

If you do not seek medical advice:

Your child must isolate for 10 days. They may be able to return earlier if ALL the following apply:

· they do not have a fever (without using medication)

· it has been at least 24 hours since their symptoms started improving (or 48 hours if they had nausea/vomiting/diarrhea)
