Week of June 22-26

As the school year draws to a close we would like to thank you for your on- going participation and support of your child and our teachers as we complete our final week of Distance Learning. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a safe and wonderful summer.

Congratulations Grade 8 Graduates

Today we celebrated our Grade 8 Graduates with a Curb Side Celebration at the school. Thank you to Miss Power, Ms. Mercanti and Mr. Kay for all your hard work in preparing this memorable event for our students. Many thanks to Mrs. Pirruccio and Mrs. Babinger for all their hard work behind the scenes. We wish all our Graduates well on their Graduation Day and always. The virtual ceremony will be viewed this evening by our Grade 8 Graduates and their families at 6:00 pm. We will post the ceremony on our school website for our community to enjoy!

Thank you to Miss Power and the Strategic Communications Department at the HCDSB for all their creativity and support producing the SJPII 2020 Graduation Ceremony.

Pick Up of Student Belongings for K-6 is Wednesday

The HCDSB has completed the Elementary School Curbside Access for Student Belongings Protocol for Parents/Guardians – found below. Details for family pick up times and information will be emailed separately in school messenger. Please note that K-8 classroom teachers will gathering ALL student belongings from the classroom and the lockers and bagging them for parent curbside pickup.

As communicated last week, we will be facilitating curbside pickup of your child’s belongings on Wednesday, June 24. Please see below for your scheduled pick-up time according to your child’s last name. As we are mindful that many cars will be using the entrances and exits at the school and we want to avoid excess street traffic, we ask that you please adhere to the scheduled 20 minute window of time.

When you enter your specified driveway entrance, there will be a first stop for returning items to the school. You will see individual bins marked for the return of the following items:

  • Library Books
  • Text Books
  • Athletic Uniforms/Jerseys
  • Technology Devices (loaned to students for Distance Learning)

If you are returning items, please place them in separate plastic bags with your child’s name. You will then proceed to the second stop, which is for pick-up of your child’s belongings. If your child has medication at school, such as inhalers, Epipens, or non-prescription medication, these will be with your child’s belongings. You are asked to open the trunk of your vehicle and the staff member will place the bag of belongings inside and close the trunk. Once you have picked up your child’s belongings, we ask you to directly leave school property without stopping or parking in the parking lot.

If you have any questions or concerns about this process or the protocol, please reach out to Mrs. Choma and/or Mrs. Scannell through email. Thank you so much for your assistance and understanding!

Medication

All students who have medication at school such as inhalers, Epi-Pens and non prescription medication will be included in your child’s bag.

Distribution of Report Cards

This year, in light of the school closures due to COVID-19, student report cards will be delivered electronically. The report cards will be delivered directly to parents and guardians by email on Wednesday, June 24, 2020

Parents and guardians will need their child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) in order to access the report card. Your child’s OEN number can be found on a previous report card.

The Ministry has waived the expectation for both a teacher and parental signature for this reporting period.  The School Principal’s electronic signature will appear on all student report cards.

As with all reporting periods, parents and guardians may contact their child’s teacher to arrange a time to discuss the report card.

You are also welcome to contact our school administration with any questions or should you require further clarification.

Courtesy Seats on School Buses for the 2020-2021 School Year

Families with children who take the bus to school are advised that the application process for receiving courtesy seats on school buses will be delayed for the 2020-21 school year. Due to physical distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it may not be possible to grant courtesy seats or the process may be delayed for next school year.
However, parents and guardians can continue to submit a Courtesy Seat Application, and will be notified via email once a decision on this process has been made.

Please note that there is no guarantee that a courtesy seat will be offered if you submit an application, or if your child had a courtesy seat in the past. Visit the Halton Student Transportation Services website for more information: www.haltonbus.ca
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

OCGE Focus for the Month of June

Our Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectaion for the month of June is I HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES!

  • I am a peace-maker.
  • I am fair.
  • I am forgiving.
  • I follow rules and do my share.
  • I help the poor and care for people in need.
  • I stand up for what is right. I know that all life is precious.
  • I respect and protect the world and all that is in it.
  • Because I accept my responsibilities, I can make a difference, and will live my life like Jesus.

Waitlist Opens for Grades 6-8 Literacy and Math Summer Programs

Please note that the registration portal and waitlist has been re-opened for the Grades 6-8 Literacy and Math ~ Distance Learning Summer Programs, taking place this July.

Due to high enrolment, all new student registration requests submitted after June 10th will be added to the current waitlist. New classes will open based on teacher availability, and registrations will no longer be accepted when classes are full.

Parents and guardians can access the registration portal for their child to be added to the waitlist here: Summer Distance Learning

Please note that filling out the following form does not guarantee admission into the program as spaces are limited. Parents and guardians will be contacted directly if their child is placed in a class.

We put ourselves in the hands of the Lord and pray that God will bless us and our families during the wonderful months of summer. May we be generous and considerate, not thinking only of ourselves but helping others enjoy the blesssings of summer.
