Weekly Update #19
Monday January 27th – Friday January 31st, 2020
Grade 7 Confirmation
Our Grade 7 classes will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday at St. Matthew Parish. We are very proud of these children as they mark a very important step in their faith journey. Please keep our Grade 7 students in your prayers this weekend.
We are very pleased to see the start-up of Reading Clubs for our primary students! On Thursdays, Grade 1 students have the opportunity to spend 20 minutes of the lunch hour with some grade 5 students reading together. We are very appreciative of the initiative and commitment of our grade 5 students who are demonstrating such wonderful Christian leadership! Thank you to Mr. Grano for supervising the Grade 1 reading club! Mrs. Morrallee has begun a reading club for grade 2 and 3 students as well. This reading club is on Fridays and includes a large group read-aloud followed by independent/partner reading. Thank you to Mrs. Morrallee for providing this opportunity for our young readers!

Cross Boundary Forms
These forms have been sent home to families that are cross boundary. We appreciate you completing and returning these forms at your earliest convenience. Thank you!
SafeArrival Student Absence Reporting
Just a reminder to report all absences to our automated student attendance management system called SafeArrival.
The SafeArrival system is available 24/7, allowing you to report your child’s absence in one of three ways:
- using the SchoolMessenger® mobile app
- by logging into the SchoolMessenger® web site
- by calling into an interactive toll-free phone line
SafeArrival enhances our existing student attendance procedure, making it more convenient for parents to report a child’s absence, and more efficient for our school office staff to follow up sooner on unexplained absences.
Winter is here and students need to dress appropriately for the conditions. Please remember that even though we may have sunny or mild days, the wind chill can be significant and students should be appropriately dressed for the outdoors. Board policy directs us to keep students indoors for recess at -20 Celsius (with the wind chill). Also, please remember that students need a pair of boots for outside recesses and “indoor shoes” as this helps keep the floor dry and the students safe.
School Closures/Bus Cancellations Due to Inclement Weather Conditions
Tune in to any local television/radio station or log on to the HCDSB or the Halton Student Transportation Services websites for news about school closures and/or bus cancellations due to inclement weather. Delays and cancellations are always shared by Halton Transportation on their website www.haltonbus.ca and on Twitter @haltonschoolbus. HCDSB shares bus cancellations and school closures on the board website www.hcdsb.org as well as on Twitter @HCDSB and Instagram at haltoncatholicdsb. When transportation services have been cancelled due to inclement weather, schools will remain open and operational for walkers. If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will NOT be running in the afternoon even if weather improves. As always, it is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to decide if conditions are safe for a child to walk to and from school
Please note that when bus transportation is cancelled and schools are open, all student absences, including bus students, must be reported through School Messenger online reporting. Thank you very much!
It is officially cold and flu season, and we know that these illnesses spread so quickly. Please do not send students to school if they are feeling ill. They should stay at home until they are able to participate fully in all school activities. Students cannot stay in at recess, as supervision is not provided for ill students whose parents have requested for them to stay indoors. Thank you for your co-operation.
