Weekly Update #20
Monday February 3rd – Friday February 7th, 2020
Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations Medallion Recipients
We congratulate the OCGE medallion recipients for the month of January!
Michael Wade Author Visit
We had the privilege of welcoming Michael Wade, the author of the ‘And Then It Happened’ series, to speak to our Grade 3-6 students. Mr. Wade spoke to the children about the power of words to entertain and the fact that anyone can be an author. Thank you to Mrs. Sousa for organizing this fantastic event for our students!
Lion King Jr.
Miss Jackie has been working hard with our main cast as well as classes to prepare for this year’s musical ‘Lion King Jr.’. Next week we will send home the class schedule for our April performances as well as costume requirements for all classes.
Labour Negotiations Update
Our school will be CLOSED to students on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 as a result of the recent announcement by OECTA of a province-wide, one-day full withdrawal of services.
Although classes will be cancelled on Tuesday, February 4th, our school office will remain open .
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. For more information, please visit the Halton Catholic District School Board’s website: Labour Negotiations Update.
OCGE Focus for February
During the month of February our focus is on being a learner for life. We will focus on the following demonstrations of this expectation and encourage you to make connections to life at home as well:
- I AM A LEARNER FOR LIFE!
- I use my gifts and talents given to me by God.
- I always do my best.
- I build on my strengths and know my weaknesses.
- I set goals.
- I accept change.
- I am proud of the good things I do.
- I am thankful for the gifts of others.
- Because I am a learner for life, I can reach for my dreams by living my life like Jesus.
Professional Activity Day
Please know that Friday February 14th, teachers will be involved in professional learning activities and there is no school for students.
YMCA Drop-off and Pick-Up
We know that before and after school are hectic times for most families and that you may be in a bit of a hurry when dropping off and picking up your child. For the safety of all children and parents, we ask that you use the parking spaces in the parking lot rather than parking along the sidewalk on the east side of the school. This will help ensure the safety of all as cars arrive and leave the parking lot. Thank you for your cooperation!
Winter is here and students need to dress appropriately for the conditions. Please remember that even though we may have sunny or mild days, the wind chill can be significant and students should be appropriately dressed for the outdoors. Board policy directs us to keep students indoors for recess at -20 Celsius (with the wind chill). Also, please remember that students need a pair of boots for outside recesses and “indoor shoes” as this helps keep the floor dry and the students safe.
School Closures/Bus Cancellations Due to Inclement Weather Conditions
Tune in to any local television/radio station or log on to the HCDSB or the Halton Student Transportation Services websites for news about school closures and/or bus cancellations due to inclement weather. Delays and cancellations are always shared by Halton Transportation on their website www.haltonbus.ca and on Twitter @haltonschoolbus. HCDSB shares bus cancellations and school closures on the board website www.hcdsb.org as well as on Twitter @HCDSB and Instagram at haltoncatholicdsb. When transportation services have been cancelled due to inclement weather, schools will remain open and operational for walkers. If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will NOT be running in the afternoon even if weather improves. As always, it is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to decide if conditions are safe for a child to walk to and from school
Please note that when bus transportation is cancelled and schools are open, all student absences, including bus students, must be reported through School Messenger online reporting. Thank you very much!
Cross Boundary Forms
These forms have been sent home to families that are cross boundary. We appreciate you completing and returning these forms at your earliest convenience. Thank you!
