Council Connection – March 2018 Pasta Night Dinner
As you have no doubt heard by now, the St. John Pasta Night dinner is back for the 31st time this year! Check your calendar and make sure you have saved the date on April 19th. Tickets are now on sale on school cash online so be sure to get yours before they sell out!

While this year’s Pasta Night will see some exciting new changes, many of the great traditions will continue. Pasta Night will continue to be St. John’s premier community building event of the year, bringing together students, staff, families and parish members. This will be facilitated by our new location in the heart of our community, the St. John school gymnasium. An open seating plan will also provide an opportunity to meet new people. As in the past, there will be continue to be two sittings so that we can accommodate as many people as possible at this very popular event.

The Grade 8s will continue to serve the meal, which this year will be provided and delivered hot and fresh by Nonna’s Oven and will include meatballs, and a Caesar salad. As always, there will be lots of great raffle prizes and this year, you can avoid the lineups at the event by pre-purchasing your raffle tickets online.

While some of these changes have reduced the number of volunteers needed, we are still in need of volunteers to help out on the day of the event, during the actual event and the following day. In the past, many volunteers have helped at whichever sitting they did not attend. So for example, if you attend the 5:00 sitting with your family, please consider volunteering at the 7:00 sitting and vice versa.

Jobs include ticket sales and overseeing various aspects of the meal delivery, for example. We will also need help immediately following the event with “tear down” as well as pulling the prize winners. The more hands on deck after the second sitting, the faster we can get everything done and everyone can go home! The following day, volunteers are also needed to assist with prize distribution. Please consider helping out with any of these tasks, even if you only have an hour. If even 10 people can help out for 1 hour, its amazing what we can accomplish. If you are able to volunteer anytime on April 19th or 20th, please contact the office and let them know.

It’s going to be a great time and we look forward to seeing you there!

Council Connection – October 2017 Volunteering at St John School

With the new school year well under way (where did September go??), your Catholic School Council is busy planning for the various volunteer led programs and fundraising initiatives. None of this would be possible without volunteers, whose ongoing contributions to the school are always greatly appreciated.

To those who have already submitted your volunteer forms, police records check and/or annual declaration, thank you! For those who are planning to volunteer but have perhaps not yet submitted their information, please do so as soon as possible. It is much easier to plan if we have an idea of the volunteers who will be available. If your schedule makes it difficult to commit to a specific event or activity, please consider signing up for our standby list and we will call you as needed.
Please note that while the future of Pasta Night was uncertain at the end of last year, it looks like there has been enough interest in the planning committee that the event will proceed, possibly with some changes to the format. Ideally, we need more volunteers to make this event a success so if you didn’t sign up because you didn’t think it was happening, please sign up as soon as possible and let’s make it happen!!

Do you want more information about Pasta Night and all the other volunteer opportunities at our school? Wondering how much money we raised last year and how it was spent? You can find all of that and more in the Council Annual Report for the 2016-2017 school year, available on the School Council page of the school website and at the link below.

Planning for our 2017-2018 fundraising activities and allocation of funds will occur at our next Council meeting, on Monday, November 6th in the school library at 6:30 pm. All are welcome to attend. Feedback can also be provided at any time through the Council e-mail sjschoolcouncil@gmail.com
