Weekly Update December 6

“For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

~ John 3:16.

This second week of advent is upon us and this week we focus on Peace in our hearts, in our family and in our community as we prepare for Christmas. In these times of uncertainty and anxiety it’s important to take time to focus on what we can control, to seek opportunities to model kindness, respect, and patience, with each other and most of all with yourself.

We have lots planned over the last two weeks of this year. Please note that the safety of our students is our main concern and while we can’t open our actual doors to share in this special time of the year, there are lots of virtual opportunities to be in community with each other.

Important Reminders:

  • Week Two Advent Liturgy on Monday, December 6th at 10:50am. Thank you to Mrs. Hill’s class for hosting. A Teams link will be sent to the community Monday morning.
  • Virtual paint kits will be sent home on Monday with students who ordered them. Looking forward to painting together on Tuesday, December 7th.
  • Wednesday, December 8th is our Poinsettia Pick up day. Orders will be ready for pickup between 4 and 7PM.
  • Christmas Family Kahoot Night. Wednesday, December 15th at 7:00PM. Directions to come. Prizes to be had and fun for all!

Christmas at St. John:

Although we can’t all be together in person, we will have many chances to celebrate the season, both within the school and through virtual events. Below is a list of dates and events for you to mark on your calendar.

Our Angel Tree donations are down considerably this year. If you have the means and you are looking to brighten the day of someone in our community this Christmas please consider sending in a gift card by Friday, December 10th. This is our yearly opportunity to help families in need have a joyous Christmas. Gift cards for grocery stores, Walmart, Shopper’s Drug Mart, movies etc are welcome and allow a parent in need the dignity of purchasing gifts for their child. Thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity!

  • Monday, December 13th is Christmas Sweater Day. Students are free to come in their finest, tackiest Christmas apparel. No uniforms necessary.
  • Week Three Advent Liturgy on Monday December 13th at 10:50am hosted by Mrs. Freitas-Paprocki’s class.
  • Wednesday, December 15th is Joy Day. Students are encouraged to wear red and green. Classes will be participating in Christmas crafts in the morning. The Assumption School band will be visiting in the afternoon to bring us Christmas cheer. The band presentation will be streamed through Teams for most classes and a link will be sent to families at home as well.
  • Christmas Virtual Family Game Night. Join us at 7PM for a rousing game of Christmas Kahoot! Prizes will be awarded to the champions!
  • Friday, December 17th is our last day of school before the Christmas break. We will celebrate the day with a pajama party! Jammies and Christmas movies will be how we round out 2021! This is an early dismissal day of 1:30!

COVID-19 Safety Measures:

For the safety and well-being of all students and staff, parents and guardians must perform daily screening of their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms BEFORE leaving for school using the COVID-19 Self-Assessment.

The Government of Ontario daily self-screening tool can be accessed here: .  Please complete daily before attending school.

A very important reminder that all students, when mixing with different cohorts on school property, must be masked. We recognize that many families are enjoying the Peace Garden area after school but kindly ask that mask use is enforced to keep everyone safe and to protect the integrity of our cohort system. Should a confirmed case of Covid happen in a specific class, it is difficult for us as a school to determine the exposure risk to other classes if we are not enforcing the safety protocols we have in place.

Parents and caregivers are kindly asked to wear masks while on school property for drop offs and pickups to protect themselves and others during these busy times when social distancing cannot be maintained. Thank you in advance for your assistance and support in keeping everyone safe.

Have a wonderful week! Stay safe and be well. I pray for every family to stay healthy and safe. Please continue to follow the direction of Public Health so we can safely attend school. Please follow us on twitter @stjburlington to see all the great things happening at school!
