Weekly Update November 8

“And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier’s tomb, and beauty weeps the brave.”
—Joseph Drake

Welcome to a new week! Thank you to all for your continued support and dedication to keeping St. John a safe and welcoming place for all. A huge debt of gratitude to Mrs. Lambert and Ms. Costantini, our First Aid providers for all they do to take care of every bump, bruise and bleeding nose at our school!

A big thank you to Mrs. Walton and all our parent volunteers for bringing back our much loved pizza days!

Lastly thank you to Mrs. I and Halton Food for Thought for supporting our healthy snack bins in each class.

Covid Reminders:

Individuals with signs/symptoms of COVID-19:

Individuals are to complete the daily Provincial COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool and follow the direction provided. https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Everyone in your household (unless they are fully vaccinated) must also stay home until the symptomatic individual has a negative COVID-19 test result, or are cleared by public health, or diagnosed with another illness.

Individuals must get a COVID-19 PCR test (not a rapid antigen test) if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or are a contact of a known COVID-19 case.

Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in the screening tool (e.g. runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion, abdominal pain, headache, pink eye, decreased/lack of appetite etc.), should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. If an individual is symptomatic (with any symptom) and gets tested for COVID-19, they (and their unvaccinated household members) should isolate pending test results.

The No Hate In Halton Campaign

The #NoHateInHalton will be launched on Monday, November 8th in schools across the Halton Region. This is a community campaign that was developed by our Halton Regional Police Services in cooperation with the School Districts throughout our Region. We will look for opportunities to share the message that we believe that there should be #NoHateInHalton and that Halton region is diverse & that is what makes it beautiful and vibrant.

Dressing for Winter Weather

With the arrival colder weather, we ask that students come dressed each day to play outside at recess. Students are able to be outside for all regular outside activities when it is warmer than -15 C. When temperatures range between -15C to -20C, students may remain outside for no longer than 20-minute intervals, once temperatures are colder than -20C students must remain inside. Thanking you in advance for your support and cooperation.

School Fundraising:

The donation campaign remains open for all through the board website. Our goal is to raise $7500 this year to support student initiatives such as teams sports, field trips, guest speakers and recess equipment. So far we have raised $1800. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated! Please see link for more details to donate.

Have a wonderful week! Stay safe and be well. I pray for every family to stay healthy and safe. Please continue to follow the direction of Public Health so we can safely attend school. Please follow us on twitter @stjburlington to see all the great things happening at school!
