“My wish for you is that you continue. Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness. Continue to allow humor to lighten the burden of your tender heart.”
~ Maya Angelou.
Welcome to a new week and a new opportunity to spread kindness. This week is National Bullying Prevention Week. The theme this year is Rebuild, Restore, Renew together. God tells us that he will Rebuild, Restore, and Renew places and people in our lives. Given what has happened over the past year and half many of us been affected by the current pandemic and other social justice issues happening around us.
Catholic social teaching life and dignity of the human person; This theme teaches that every single person has value and dignity that cannot be taken away from them. We are all made in God’s image, which means that no one person is better than another. Bullying is an imbalance of power in which one person assets their dominance over another. This goes against the catholic social teaching because bullying is treating others without dignity.
As we prepare to celebrate the week ahead let us remember that bullying is a relationship problem. Our lifelong goal is to help ensure that we all have healthy, safe, respectful, and caring relationship with the people in our lives.
With schools looking different again this year with the health and safety rules in place due to the pandemic, our focus will be on how as a school can we Rebuild, Restore, Renew, friendships and our community.
Classes will be participating in activities all week long that focus on community, kindness and respect and on Thursday we will have a Tech free day. Classes will work on team building activities, gratitude giving and opportunities for meditation and focus to examine their place in our community.
St. John, while never perfect, works hard to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feels safe, feels seen and feels valued. I look forward to the upcoming week and seeing all we can accomplish together!

Christmas is Coming:
As November flies by our thoughts turn to Christmas and preparing for the birth of our Savior. While we are still unable to gather together to celebrate Christmas, I can assure you that the school will find lots of opportunities to celebrate the joy of the season. Advent liturgies will be held every Monday virtually and we encourage parents to join us if you are able. Details will be shared as we get closer to the end of the month.
We will also will continue with the practice of offering an Angel Tree to support those in our community that struggle financially. More information will be shared in next weeks update.
Catholic Parent Council Communication Update:
St. John Catholic Parent Council has set up a parent Facebook Group that can be assessed to help stay on top of events at the school. The link is listed below. Thank you to Angela Guadalupe for taking on the development and moderation of the group.
Parking Lot Safety:
With more cars entering the parking lot we continue to look for ways to reduce the congestion and increase overall safety in the parking lot. Cars are not to be exiting the parking lot onto Brant Street during busy times before and after school. The front of the school is a bus zone and cars are forbidden from stopping and dropping off in this area. A visual has been provided below to show the flow of traffic.
The Kiss and Ride area in the morning is meant as a quick drop off only. Parents are not to be exiting their vehicles. If you need to exit your car, please park in a designated parking spot.
Please note that safety is our main concern in our parking lot and that while every person’s time is valuable it does not take precedence over the safety of our students. Patience and respect are our guiding principles when using the parking lot. Thank you to all for your assistance in this very important matter.
Individuals with signs/symptoms of COVID-19:
Individuals are to complete the daily Provincial COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool and follow the direction provided. https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Everyone in your household (unless they are fully vaccinated) must also stay home until the symptomatic individual has a negative COVID-19 test result, or are cleared by public health, or diagnosed with another illness.
Individuals must get a COVID-19 PCR test (not a rapid antigen test) if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or are a contact of a known COVID-19 case.
Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in the screening tool (e.g. runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion, abdominal pain, headache, pink eye, decreased/lack of appetite etc.), should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. If an individual is symptomatic (with any symptom) and gets tested for COVID-19, they (and their unvaccinated household members) should isolate pending test results.
Have a wonderful week! Stay safe and be well. I pray for every family to stay healthy and safe. Please continue to follow the direction of Public Health so we can safely attend school. Please follow us on twitter @stjburlington to see all the great things happening at school!
