God, thank you for Spring and the hope of warmer, longer, brighter days.
Thank you for the coming of growth and life and birth.
Thank you that things are coming awake in the world.
This is what our calendar says, and we do see some signs that it is real.
Now we ask that you bring into reality all that belongs in this season. Your word says that we will have provision, and hope, and joy, and health and loving relationships here and now in this life.
We ask that what belongs in this season would become actual in our practical lives.
We hope in you and in your promises. We hope in your gift of Spring.
Monday, May 24th – Victoria Day

Free Family Paint Nights
Our HCDSB Indigenous Education Advisor has organized three free on-line paint nights with Indigenous Artist Moses Lunham. This is a wonderful way of engaging staff, parents, students and family members to come together in community, to be creative and learn more about Indigenous Art. All information for the paint nights, pictures and supplies will be posted on the HCDSB webpage.
Each session will have a different theme based on the natural cycle of the environment. All sessions will be on the HCDSB YouTube Channel from 6 pm – 8 pm.
- Wednesday June 9th, 2021 – Strawberry being the First Fruit of the Season
Moses Lunham will provide step-by-step instructions, provide encouragement and has agreed to leave the live video up for a period of one week between each session.
Gr. 6-8 Literacy & Numeracy Summer School 2021
HCDSB’s Thomas Merton Centre for Adult and Continuing Education is pleased to announce that we are currently accepting registrations for Literacy and Math Summer School courses for students in Grades 6-8.
When is Summer School?
Summer school will begin on July 5, 2021 through July 30, 2021, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Please note that due to the current COVID-19 situation, the health and well-being of our students continues to remain our highest priority. Like last year, both session 1 and 2 for the 2021 Summer School courses will be offered in a virtual/remote format.
Some important notes about summer school:
- Each day, students will participate in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (pre-recorded) lessons provided by their instructor.
- Students cannot miss more than 3 days within one session, which is a total of 10 days.
It should be noted that participation in summer school is completely voluntary and is not a mandatory component of regular track programming.
Online registration is available for our summer programs to help make the registration process more convenient for parents!
You may register your child for one or both sessions by following these instructions:
- Hit ‘Sign in‘ on the top right-hand corner.

Are You Moving?
If you are aware that you will not be returning to St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in September, please let the office know, you can email Mrs. Freeze: email@example.com. We are starting preliminary planning for next year and having the most updated information is very helpful when we look at numbers for class organization.

St. Matthew Parish
St. Luke’s account of the Pentecost includes mention of the diversity of the gathering. One of the joys of membership in the modern Church is that we practice side-by-side with brothers and sisters with roots in many different cultures, often with their own particular ways of praying and worshiping. We can learn a lot from one another’s devotions and are blessed by the fact that whenever we gather, we tend to a assemble a modern-day Pentecost of peoples. ~ Father Allan Varlaki, Pastor

Register your Child for Kindergarten
Kindergarten is an exciting milestone for your child and for your family! Our school offers a full-day, 2-year Kindergarten program, designed to engage curious early learners through different kinds of play, that help children learn how to reason and problem-solve as they interact with one another. When Can My Child Begin Kindergarten? To register your child to begin Junior Kindergarten (Year 1) in September 2021, your child must be four years old by December 31st, 2021. Children enrolled in Senior Kindergarten (Year 2) must be five years old by December 31st, 2021. For more information on how to register your child: Register Your Child
Attendance will be taken twice daily: once in the morning and again after lunch. If your child is not able to attend or participate in remote learning on any given day, please report his or her absence, as you typically would during in-person learning through the SchoolMessenger Safe Arrival System: https://www.hcdsb.org/parents/report-your-childs-absence/.
We will be following our usual process of contacting parents and guardians when student absences are not reported. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Now, more than ever, ongoing communication between home and school is key to your child’s success and well-being.
Stay Healthy and Safe!
