Lenten Food Drive
In keeping with the forty-day Lenten season of Almsgiving, our school will be holding a food drive to support those less fortunate than us within our community. Our Food Drive will look a bit different this year. Due to COVID, no food donations will be brought into the school, instead, laundry baskets will be left outside the front of the school the Week of March 15 for parents to drop off donations. Items needed most are: canned fruit of any type, fruit cups, canned vegetables (corn, green beans, green peas), canned tomato products (whole peeled tomatoes, chopped tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce), canned fish (especially salmon and sardines) and shampoo. Thank you for your continued support of this worthwhile cause.

As you may be aware, the Province of Ontario requires school boards to offer voluntary COVID-19 testing sites for asymptomatic staff and students. We are writing to let you know that the first round of testing for your child’s school will be available on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Testing is voluntary, and consent will be required from parents or guardians.
- Voluntary, targeted testing is offered only for HCDSB students and staff who are asymptomatic (i.e. not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms).
- At this time, this testing is not being offered to family members, but if this option becomes available in the future, we will notify staff and families.
When and Where Will the Testing Take Place?
At HCDSB, the testing will be conducted using a Family of Schools ‘hub’ model, where the secondary school will be the testing site for each secondary school and the associated elementary schools. The schedule will rotate to each of our nine (9) secondary schools over the course of a 3-week period, providing a testing site in Burlington, Oakville, and North Halton (Milton and Halton Hills) for one day each week.
The first round of testing for the St. Ignatius of Loyola Family of Schools will take place on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School. The St. Ignatius of Loyola Family of Schools includes:

Updates to the COVID-19 School Screening Tool
The COVID-19 School Screening Tool https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ has been changed and will now require students and staff with any new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19, even those with only one (1) symptom, must stay home until:
- they receive a negative COVID-19 test result.; OR
- they receive an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional.; OR
- it has been 10 days since their symptom onset, and they are feeling better
The new single-symptom screening criteria in the COVID-19 daily screening tool has now been applied and is in effect as of Friday, February 19th, 2021.
Students in Grades K – 8 are required to wear non-medical or cloth masks indoors in school, including hallways and during classes, as well as on school vehicles. Students will be required to wear masks outdoors during recesses where multiple classes are outside together. Students will continue to remain in their class cohorts while outside at recess and to maintain physical distancing from each other. As students will be wearing masks outside at recess, they will be asked to bring additional masks to school if their mask gets wet, damaged, or soiled at recess. For students who do not have an extra mask, they can approach staff for an extra mask when needed. Staff will provide daily opportunities for mask breaks (i.e., DPA activities outdoors with one cohort at a time and students can maintain physical distancing) with considerations made for appropriate mask storage and hand hygiene.

A gentle reminder to parents and students not to congregate before and after school. Students are reminded to return directly home after school.
A reminder to all parents and guardians that masks are required when entering school property (fence line, parking lot, building). When waiting near the gates at the beginning of the day or at dismissal, please ensure that masks are worn until you enter your car off school property. These safety measures are in place in accordance with Halton Public Health and SJOA/HCDSB COVID-19 return to school policy and procedure. Remember we are all in this together!
Register your Child for Kindergarten
Kindergarten is an exciting milestone for your child and for your family! Our school offers a full-day, 2-year Kindergarten program, designed to engage curious early learners through different kinds of play, that help children learn how to reason and problem-solve as
they interact with one another.
When Can My Child Begin Kindergarten?
To register your child to begin Junior Kindergarten (Year 1) in September 2021, your child must be four years old by December 31st, 2021. Children enrolled in Senior Kindergarten (Year 2) must be five years old by December 31st, 2021.

Attendance will be taken twice daily: once in the morning and again after lunch. If your child is not able to attend or participate in remote learning on any given day, please report his or her absence, as you typically would during in-person learning through the SchoolMessenger Safe Arrival System: https://www.hcdsb.org/parents/report-your-childs-absence/.

The meeting will be facilitated by Special Education staff, where they will share information about their individual roles, and supports and services offered by HCDSB. Parents/guardians will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Special Education staff, and learn more about the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
