Parents and guardians of St. Joan of Arc are invited to participate in a school boundary review to determine a home school for the new Bronte Green community that will support sustainable long-term enrolment at St. Mary and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Elementary Schools.
- Bronte Green (formerly Saw Whet Golf Course) is a new residential development area in the northwestern portion of the Town of Oakville. The development is currently under construction and the first units are expected to be complete at the earliest by late summer of 2021.
- Based on our current boundaries, the Bronte Green development (also known as the Glen Abbey Encore development) will fall within the St. Mary Catholic Elementary School boundary. St. Mary continues to face accommodation pressure due to high enrolment, while neighbouring St. Joan of Arc has seen declining enrolment over the last few years.
- The 2019 Long-Term Capital Plan (LTCP) identified the need to conduct a School Boundary Review to address enrolment pressures and determine a home school for the new community in Oakville.
School Boundary Review Committee
The first step in this review involves establishing a School Boundary Review Committee (SBRC) made up of parents and Board staff. The role of the SBRC is to gather and share information about the review with their school communities.
Both St. Mary and St. Joan of Arc school communities have been asked to provide two (2) parent representatives to serve as members of the SBRC.
The Board is hoping to have representation on the SBRC from one (1) member of our Catholic School Council, as well as one (1) parent who does not sit on the Catholic School Council.
The SBRC will meet several times throughout the review process. The meetings will be held virtually during weekday evenings and may last anywhere between 2-3 hours. The first (orientation) meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to attending all SBRC meetings, SBRC members are also required to attend the public consultation meetings which will take place throughout the process.
