Monday, February 15th, 2021 is Family Day. There are no classes for students.
On Tuesday, February 16th, 2021, students are encouraged to bring a pancake lunch this year. Unfortunately, this year we will not be providing students with pancakes.

Return to School Reminders
Students in Grades K – 8 are required to wear non-medical or cloth masks indoors in school,
including hallways and during classes, as well as on school vehicles. Students will be required to wear masks outdoors during recesses where multiple classes are outside together. Students will continue to remain in their class cohorts while outside at recess and to maintain physical distancing from each other. As students will be wearing masks outside at recess, they will be asked to bring additional masks to school if their mask gets wet, damaged, or soiled at recess. For students who do not have an extra mask, they can approach staff for an extra mask when needed. Staff will provide daily opportunities for mask breaks (i.e., DPA activities outdoors with one cohort at a time and students can maintain physical distancing) with considerations made for appropriate mask storage and hand hygiene.

It is important to ensure that students are not congregating before and after school. Students are reminded to return directly home after school.
A reminder to all parents and guardians that masks are required when entering school property (fence line, parking lot, building). When waiting near the gates at the beginning of the day or at dismissal, please ensure that masks are worn until you enter your car off school property. These safety measures are in place in accordance with Halton Public Health and SJOA/HCDSB COVID-19 return to school policy and procedure. Remember we are all in this together!
Please remember to bring indoor shoes to school on Monday. Help keep the classrooms safe and dry during the winter months.

Register your Child for Kindergarten
Kindergarten is an exciting milestone for your child and for your family! Our school offers a full-day, 2-year Kindergarten program, designed to engage curious early learners through different kinds of play, that help children learn how to reason and problem-solve as
they interact with one another.
When Can My Child Begin Kindergarten?
To register your child to begin Junior Kindergarten (Year 1) in September 2021, your child must be four years old by December 31st, 2021. Children enrolled in Senior Kindergarten (Year 2) must be five years old by December 31st, 2021.

Attendance will be taken twice daily: once in the morning and again after lunch. If your child is not able to attend or participate in remote learning on any given day, please report his or her absence, as you typically would during in-person learning through the SchoolMessenger Safe Arrival System: https://www.hcdsb.org/parents/report-your-childs-absence/.

School Uniform Provider
We are pleased to announce that McCarthy Uniforms is our official school uniform provider. We encourage you to register to be notified of school uniform details, updates on your shopping options, and access to sales throughout the year. In addition to a custom website built specifically for our school, two retail stores will be available in the Halton Region. These school uniform retail spaces are being launched for the first time in Canada to maximize health, safety, and the customer experience. Both stores are located in SmartCentres for more convenience including ample parking and the ability to do other errands in the same complex. They’re both over 7000 square feet of space to ensure safe physical distancing measures are in place, in addition to multiple formats to shop including self-serve and 1:1 appointments. The stores will also feature integrated technology to allow for curbside pickup, order & ship, and more. And they’ll feature a made-in-Canada section featuring domestically manufactured navy and white options.
Stay Healthy and Safe
We invite staff and students to wear a “pink shirt”. Pink Shirt Day began as a youth-led initiative to support a peer who was being bullied, and it remains a call to youth to take a stand against bullying behavior. The pink shirt acts as a symbol, but it is up to everyone to take action! We here at SJOA stand united against bullying!
Uniform bottoms must be worn.
In keeping with the forty-day Lenten season of Almsgiving, our school will be holding a food drive to support those less fortunate than us within our community. Our Food Drive will look a bit different this year. Due to COVID, no food donations will be brought into the school, instead, laundry baskets will be left outside the front of the school the week of March 15 for parents to drop off donations. Items that needed most are: canned fruit of any type, fruit cups, canned vegetables (corn, green beans, green peas), canned tomato products (whole peeled tomatoes, chopped tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce), canned fish (especially salmon and sardines) and shampoo. Thank you for your continued support of this worthwhile cause.
The meeting will be facilitated by Special Education staff, where they will share information about their individual roles, and supports and services offered by HCDSB. Parents/guardians will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Special Education staff, and learn more about the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
Parents/guardians who have already registered their child for Kindergarten will be sent a link to the meeting via email from their child’s school. If you have not yet registered for Kindergarten, please contact the school for the meeting link.
